  • It is an interesting concept as in reality no email account is 100% secure. Why have it sit on a server for years?

    http://mailinator.com/

"Receive Only Email". They dispose of all the received content daily then.

From their website: "Mailinator is a different kind of email service. The biggest difference is that you don't need to sign up. Any email name you can think of already exists @mailinator.com and you can use any of them. Want BrianTheSkink@mailinator.com? You got it. Want PrettyMothra? ScaryGavyn? No problem. Those and any other mailboxes you think of @mailinator.com are created when email arrives! Really."

  • I've used this service for awhile for various sign ups that will certainly get you on mailing lists or spam.

They don't retain the emails for long so it's pretty much use it then and now and then forget it.

And they have alternative domains to the mailinator one to use for your email addresses that can be useful as some places block the mailinator domain.

    Sincerely,

    Shin

    Thanks, I didn't know that.

I think the key is using something like MississippiUniqueAddress@mailinator.com (or one of their alternative domains) to receive emails, so there is less of a chance of others reading your incoming emails. Of course telling those who email you to keep the content "general in nature" and perhaps addressing you as "John Doe" makes sense.

  • The only way to secure email is the following:

    1)  Encrypt, encrypt, encrypt!!!  So, use Tails:

    https://tails.boum.org/

    or, GPG4WIN,

    http://www.gpg4win.org/

    2)  Use Tor (which will always be the case with Tails):

    https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en

    3)  Use an anonymous email service (of course, encrypt everything!):

    http://bitmailendavkbec.onion/

(The above URL is a .onion address and is only accessible via the Tor network.)
