Talk about Linux being rock solid -- My Linux (CentOS 6) web server hasn't been rebooted for 331 days! Can you imagine not rebooting for an entire year? There's a reason Linux dominates the web server market.
On this feast of one of the
great doctors of the Church, I dare to offer my speculation [
*] that it might be because crucial code in Linux, notably
storage allocation &
deallocation, plus
buffer management, was designed, written, and tested by a
responsible adult, with his successors loyally following his lead in
programming maturity.
I confess that I have no sources to confirm my speculation; it's possible that many programmers faced a firing squad before Linux achieved the necessary level of
quality & reliability.
I remember some versions of Windows that needed to be rebooted several times a day.
Ummm, yes, a testament to the
immature hacking [Δ] and related
slipshod programming for which Bill Gates--and his Microsoft--seems to have become the standard-bearer. And yes: Any perceived
insult is fully intended.
