My laptop use is basic. For the internet, email, spreadsheets, and docuмents. Right now I have Word and Excel, and unless I can convert those files easily, I probably wouldn't want to change that. I really don't need anything too sophisticated although I suspect most laptops are sophisticated regardless.Prior to me needing a computer for my job, I would just go to Walmart and get one off the shelf that didn't cost too much, that worked out well for me.

Just make sure it has no overheating issues or flickering on notebookcheck.net
Then you really can't go wrong with any laptop. Just make sure it has no overheating issues or flickering on notebookcheck.netI am looking in the $400-700 range.
I can't say what you should look for without knowing your budget but it sounds like you'll want something along the lines of:
128 or 256 GB SSD
Intel i5 8th gen or later / Ryzen 3 or 5
8GB of RAM
The choice will then come down to looks, keyboard feel, touchpad feel, temperature under load, screen brightness, color accuracy, etc.
However, if you were perfectly satisfied with an old laptop you should just go out and buy a cheap laptop and don't worry about it.
If you're in that price range I can recommend the ASUS UX430, it's overkill for your use case though.
I like the Acer Swift line too.
I am looking in the $400-700 range.I suggest not going overboard and buying this laptop.
I just be wondering if there are any other outcasts in the computing sphere that use a 🖥 Mac?:jester:Apple devices have their pros but can't imagine justifying the price.
I ended up trading my Airbook for credit which was applied to a new Airbook with the new M2 chip. As I muck about with audio and video I will see what this new puppy can do.
It seems like a number of you have recommended the Acer and Asus brands. What are your thoughts on Lenovos?IMO Lenovo is better than both. It's a good brand, they make good hardware and I love their keyboards. Can be a little spendy, especially if new, but worth it if ones willing to pay.

Another huge plus is that you can take it back within 90 days no questions asked if it give you any problems. But it should do whatever you want it to do nicely.Yes, this is it.

But it should do whatever you want it to do nicely.I think I'm going with this one if it's still in stock. 🤞 It continues to get excellent reviews at Costco. I just wish I could find other reviews online. Like everyone said, I will have 90 days to return, so it seems like a good risk.
You will be very happy with it I bet, Windows 11 supposed to be very similar to 10.Got it!
Got it!Nice!
Nice! What do I do with the old computer? Shouldn't I backup files and transfer to new? What have you all done?
A few hours of getting it set up, updating windows, redoing bookmarks and etc. and it should do a good job for you, hopefully for years!
What do I do with the old computer? Shouldn't I backup files and transfer to new? What have you all done?In Washington we have electronics recycling, I presume other states do also. One moves or copies and deletes all the data over to the new computer and uninstalls the programs. To be thorough you can run a reformat (Costco's Concierge service could walk you through how to do that) to wipe all data and programs off the hard drive. If one is worried about any lingering data you can take the hard drive out and smash it with a hammer. The rest of the computer can be recycled and there are valuable elements they can extract from them in my understanding.
Nice! So, I'm finally getting to the new laptop. So far I'm enjoying it [especially its speed!], but it is taking a bit to get used to the differences. First of all, the internet is via Microsoft Edge instead of Chrome. Also, it's got Windows 11 and I currently have Windows 10.

Not sure what causes it, but the look is completely different, and I have to find out where everything is that I have used for so long. For example, managing bookmarks was different.
With the new eyeglasses, I'm also adjusting to the slightly smaller screen [I am trying to stick to the new glasses rather than go back and forth with the old ones].
I am glad that I got the new computer before the old one died because I need to do this changeover in small doses. I'm on the old computer right now.
I burn my old laptops.I do the same.
You can download/install Chrome if you'd like. I usually do.Thanks for the tips Lad. Once I get the basic bookmarks in place I'll start delving further.
https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/chrome/
So, run the Installer. Then find it on your Start menu and right-click > more -> pin to task bar.
Then find Edge on your Task Bar and right-click -> "unpin from taskbar"
In your search area, type "Default" and click on "Default apps". Find "Web Browser", click on the Edge Icon, and select Chrome instead.
If you want to make it look more like Windows 10, here are some good tips:
