    In Washington we have electronics recycling, I presume other states do also.  One moves or copies and deletes all the data over to the new computer and uninstalls the programs.  To be thorough you can run a reformat (Costco's Concierge service could walk you through how to do that) to wipe all data and programs off the hard drive.  If one is worried about any lingering data you can take the hard drive out and smash it with a hammer.  The rest of the computer can be recycled and there are valuable elements they can extract from them in my understanding.

    So, I'm finally getting to the new laptop.  So far I'm enjoying it [especially its speed!], but it is taking a bit to get used to the differences.  First of all, the internet is via Microsoft Edge instead of Chrome.  Also, it's got Windows 11 and I currently have Windows 10. 

    Not sure what causes it, but the look is completely different, and I have to find out where everything is that I have used for so long.  For example, managing bookmarks was different. 

    With the new eyeglasses, I'm also adjusting to the slightly smaller screen [I am trying to stick to the new glasses rather than go back and forth with the old ones]. 

    I am glad that I got the new computer before the old one died because I need to do this changeover in small doses. I'm on the old computer right now.

    You can download/install Chrome if you'd like.  I usually do.

    So, run the Installer.  Then find it on your Start menu and right-click > more -> pin to task bar.

    Then find Edge on your Task Bar and right-click -> "unpin from taskbar"

    In your search area, type "Default" and click on "Default apps".  Find "Web Browser", click on the Edge Icon, and select Chrome instead.

    If you want to make it look more like Windows 10, here are some good tips:

    I do the same. 

    My laptops have been dells.  The one I have now is one of the last with a side compartment for cd /dvd.  

    I have to figure out to do if I want internet.  Sprint was bought out by T-crummy Mobile and my netgear no longer works.  Maybe I can use Wi-Fi or hotspot via my cell phone.

    Thanks for the tips Lad.  Once I get the basic bookmarks in place I'll start delving further.
