Internet Issues with New Computer?

  • As many of you know, I bought a new computer a couple of months ago.  I am finding that when I use it in a certain locations in the house, I get spotty internet.  I assume this is because of the locations being farther from the router, but when I check my old computer in the same location there is no spottiness {it's slow, but that is another issue}.

Why is this?  Is it possible for different computers to have varying abilities to access internet??  And if so, is there anything I can do to fix that?

  • I've been noticing the same issues. I have two chromebooks, and they give me the problem you describe. I have a regular laptop, and it works fine anywhere. In fact, I now have to drag it into the kitchen if I want to listen to a podcast or sermon while doing the dishes. The chromebooks, which used to work beautifully, are now useless.

Something to do with 5G and the new fiberoptic system they have been laying everywhere? They dug up our backyard last spring and laid their filthy wires all over the neighborhood and nearby streets. GROWL!

  • Might just be the new computer has a weak(er) wireless card.
    .
You can purchase wifi signal amplifiers and the like to help.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

What part of the description of the wireless card tells me its strength.  I have Intel (R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz.  I'm thinking the 160 MHz?

The more I think about this it just doesn't make sense that a 12 year old computer would have a stronger wireless card.  Can it?

  • Could be a problem with the network driver.  The difficulty is, by troubleshooting the driver, you run the risk of temporarily disabling your ability to connect to any network.  As long as you know what you’re doing, you might try uninstalling the driver and then rebooting to allow it to reinstall itself.

Eh, I definitely don't know what I'm doing.  Unless there is some other easy fixable reason for this difference, then I may just have to avoid certain locations with this computer.
