  • Does anyone here use Surf Shark? Is it worth it? What are your thoughts?

  • Only a VPN that allows you to pay with cash is really anonymous. The only one I know of that allows that is Mullvad.

  • From the website:

    Quote
    Cash
Put the money in an envelope together with the payment token and send it to us. We will open the envelope, add time to the account (corresponding to the amount of cash sent), and then use a shredder to destroy the envelope and its non-money contents.
We have no way of knowing who made the payment and who the account belongs to. Even if a person were to address the envelope, there is still no way to prove that he or she generated the account or is even using it. Please avoid writing your name or address on the envelope.

  • I don't know much about VPNs, but just saw an ad and thought it sounds like a good idea being able to hide your info while browsing, assuming the VPN guys don't just take whatever info they are supposed to hide.

Looks great.  Thanks.  I'll check them out.  How's the performance?  Their prices are great even to say nothing about the added anonymity ... although I'm convinced the government has the technology to break through VPN anonymity, so this will protect you from your average criminal on the internet, but not Big Brother.

  • VPNs are a meme. Instead of your ISP having your data the VPN company has it and gov agencies can easily get that too.

    .

There is another VPN called Private Internet Access that actually proved in court that this is not the case. There was someone who was using their service to do something illegal (I think it might have been to make a bomb threat), and the FBI subpoenaed the information the VPN had on their users. The VPN said they had no traffic logs, so they didn't have the information the FBI was demanding. They actually went into court and proved that they were not only unwilling, but actually unable to turn over any data on what the user had done on the internet or which user it was.

It must depend on the VPN. I remember proton mail giving information to the Gov so I don't trust these companies.

Also this is a useful guide. VPNs may be suited depending on your needs and conditions

Depending on the VPN, most of them don't have huge profit margins and it's very expensive to store that amount of data.  I do believe government have ways to hack VPNs (have hacks for the various encryption algorithms out there, many of which likely have simple backdoors, since the government was involved in their creation).  As we know, the internet was invented with heavy involvement from DARPA (Department of Defense).
