How to spread a message?

  • Hi all,

I’m hoping I can use some of your tech skills.  I know VBA, Python, and R, but Internet technology is outside my field.

I wish to expose a pro-family message to as many eyes as possible.  Specifically, it’s a poem I wrote.  One of my online poet friends, a very talented poet herself with decades of experience, gave it all kinds of glowing compliments, but the one that led me to make this post is:

    Quote
Your poem highlights the miracle and wonder of children.  It’s one of those beautiful poems that just might make a difference to the way people think… it may well be responsible for a few more miracles in this increasingly barren world.

I’m getting it out there on the forums I’m part of where I think people will be receptive to the message.  But I’d like to get it in front of the eyes of as many as possible, especially young couples, and I’m hoping some of you might know how I can do so.  This is not a question of whether I can be successful with this method (I don’t want us to get sidetracked debating that); this is a technical feasibility question.  How can I spread the message online as far and wide as possible, and encourage others to do the same?

    Here’s the poem:

    Thank you!

  • Beautiful but sad poem...

I remember a saint (I think it was Saint John Vianney) saying that many unborn children haven't made it because their parents were not diligent in praying for their babies as soon as they knew they were expecting and didn't immediately pray for their babies' safe delivery and baptism.  :'(

Having a miscarriage is always a big fear for me and I am always praying that God spare us from us.

Have you thought of making a blog?  🙃

  • I hate to say it, but social media can be good and useful to spread things like this.  Post it yourself and get others to re-post (not just share), so that it will spread.  If people like it, it will also be re-shared.  If you don't have/like social media, then find family/friends to post it for you.  I think creating a blog/site just for a few poems won't be worth the effort.

  • I don't use FB or Reddit but try posting on Pro Life groups in those places.
Regard all of my posts as unfounded slander, heresy, theologically specious etc
I accept Church teaching on Implicit Baptism of Desire.
    Francis is Pope.
    NO is a good Mass.
    Not an ironic sig.

  • Problem with social media is, everybody’s so darned liberal there, even in “Catholic” groups.  The mods in the poetry groups reject my posts, so no one there ever sees my poetry; in fact, without the Society of Classical Poets (if you like that poem, I’ve got more there, under the same pen name), I couldn’t get published anywhere.

Maybe I need to find more groups like this… I was hoping someone might have the Internet know-how necessary to bypass the need for popularity among the masses, which was never my strong suit even before I became serious about my faith.

  • I experimented with posting it in a few groups… the Catholic one liked it, but the non-denominational “Christian” (ha!) group hated it.  It therefore makes sense to focus on Catholic groups that actually do something about anti-Catholic trolls.

  • I spoke too soon.  The Catholic group is starting to downvote my poem.

If anyone else has ideas as to how to get the message to where it will be well-received and have an effect, please let me know.

  • I think you’re overestimating the number of people that care about Truth.  Your best bet is this site.  Outside here, you’ll mostly find fake Catholics and fake “Christians”.

Yes… I got cocky.  Three of my friends consider that one their favorite, and I’ve already seen it have some influence on a few people.

So much for that idea… I guess I’ll just have to count on people clicking the link from the poetry thread.

  • Here's some good advice, when you have the urge to do something great - "Do for the one, what you wish to do for the many."  In other words, start small, help those around you, and speak to those in your sphere of influence.  If God decides for you to be part of something bigger, you'll get the opportunity.  Even St Anthony couldn't find people to listen to him preach, so he preached to the fishes and animals.

Polymath feels a poem coming up after that post!

I see that when you posted on the poetry thread, you posted just the link. You should also post the poetry so more people will see them.

When I read your first linked, I was deeply touched, but when I read it to my husband I could hold back the tears. It is just so beautiful.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

    Hey, good ideas!  Thanks!

That’s great to hear, that you were that deeply touched by “Elegy for the Child Never Conceived.”

I’d love it if all of you could get that poem (and my others, but especially that one) read and/or heard by as many people as possible, and encourage them to do the same.
