Yes, CathInfo loading well...Last week I thought my internet provider was the problem. !!
So thank you .
BUT! this limited guest access will have serious consequences I think: CI will no longer be the "Go To" website for all things Resistance, and reference material won't be universally shared - too bad. I think of all the good TRUE catholic sermons... How will all the neo-SSPX seminarians get the REALITY CHECKs re: Consecrations, modernist creep in the Fraternity, and tons more issues.? What happens to all the fundraisers? So expect radical ripple effects, many I'm afraid. Why should I spend time researching / writing articles if only 500 members will be read them a week after these are posted?
St. Pius X, pray for us.
That's why I don't disable Guest access. You can still browse the site. And as I've said 1000 times, if you need more features, just sign up for an account.
One could never post as a guest. Or search. So nothing changes there.
I just put fewer posts on a topic page (5 instead of 15), and fewer topics on a "board index" page (10 instead of 30). I still have the descriptions of the various sub-forums, and basically as much of the site's content as possible.
I could have cut off bots/guests from viewing older topics and posts (older than 2 years?). But I didn't, precisely for the reasons you listed.
What I disabled for Guests has a real pattern to it: non-essentials and decorations, like the avatar showing up. Or the listing of what members are online. Now it just shows the number of members and guests online -- guests will just have to wonder who those people are. Does that hurt neo-SSPX seminarians and other legit "lurkers" in their curious research? I don't think so.
I give guests a text version of the CathInfo.com logo, instead of the GIF. How does that really hurt them, or make CathInfo less "shareable"?
CathInfo is still CathInfo. An alternate forum with a long established history, stability, size, speed, and traffic/popularity doesn't magically appear for those who refuse to sign up for an account (Never Members -- like "Never Trumpers"). CathInfo is still the best option for Traditional Catholic news and discussion.
