Whether or not you can solve this problem you might consider investing (and it wouldn't require that much saving up) in purchasing a laptop that has webcam and microphone built-in. There's bound to be good sales after Christmas and the New Year. It's a lot more convenient. Just make sure that you purchase one with some warranty. I'm certain that there will be laptops for sale around $200-$300 that have everything you will need for video/voice-chat.

Merry Christmas.

I was saving up for one myself, and then some unexpected stuff came up! It is the good time for it no doubt. They aren't as upgradable as desktops so one has to pay attention to what one wants out of it seriously from the get go, check the specs and decide if you need a dedicated graphics card or not, but they're great on the energy bill.

I go through headsets with mics like water, the insulating cord is always poor quality. I would exchange that mic TG20, electronics purchased within 14 days can be refunded.

Controll panel - add new devices - detect new device, add mic

if dont work

uninstall mic, reinstall

if it is a usb mic it will detect automatic

if not plug it in and try to record sound with sound recorder
