This is a great example of how gender refers not to the person but to the words used in speech which apply to the person. Gender is something that can be changed, just like you use white-out or an eraser to change text on the page. An editor can change the gender of a person's description or pronouns or identity.

When it comes to the person himself (can apply to women as well), it would have to be his sex that changes.

Therefore it is a sex change operation, not a gender change operation.

But a sex change operation is a fallacy because a person's sex is embedded in the very DNA of every cell of his body, and there is no way to change all those cells in all those chromosomes, without wrecking his body.
