Thanks for all the advice!

If I wanted to try installing Debian, which I already have on my HD, before I give up and start over with another distro, how would I do that?

In 'add / remove software' I see KDE desktop with a bunch of files that haven't been installed (they're not checked).  I guess if I wanted to install it I'd start with the KDE Package Management Tool?

If you have a x64 computer, then normal distributions with x64 versions are to be installed.

How do I find out if I have an x64 computer?

I just downloaded free zorin os 6.2 lite from their site and have been using it now for about 2 weeks.  It is supported until 2017.  I am pleased.

I too am pleased - for you.  I tried to download Zorin and got as far as trying to burn the image onto a DVD with Brasero (I have Debian at the moment).  I got a message that said 'Please replace the disc with a supported CD or DVD.'  I wonder what that means.

Ohh also for general Linux wiki's the best ones for overall general Linux help would be ArchLinux, and Gentoo Wikis.

What I would advice for you to do is to download from firefox this specific add on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/dr-evil/?src=api Here is the info on the developer and here is one that might help you organize your search engines better. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/organize-search-engines/?src=userprofile Here is the addon that will help you out. after you install it make sure to be able to right click after any website that has search built into it and then just right click and "Add to Search bar".
