Converting MPG files?

  • I have an old camcorder from about 2003, and it still takes great videos.  There's somethin I recorded which I would like to upload to YouTube, Odysee, Rumble, ot Bitchute, but the problem is that the file format is in MPG (i.e., last 3 letters of the file type), and that old file format is not compatible with any of those services, so it apparently needs to be converted to some other file format type.

I found one free conversion program, but as soon as I tried to upload the file, it said not compatible (even though it was advertised to do precisely what I was trying to do).

    Any ideas?
    Noblesse oblige.

  • More info:

I'm trying to follow the method in this short video, whereby I can change the file format from MPG to MPEG, simply by adding the E into the file extension.  However, the way the file is saved in the folder, although I can rename the file, I cannot add the E to make it MPEG (which needs to happen before the file can be converted to an MP4, which can then be uploaded to those video websites).

Any ideas on how to change the file extension?

    Noblesse oblige.

  • OK, I got the file fformat extension type converted to MPEG (by a miracle), and the conversion process to MP4 file for uploading has begun, but the internet speed over here is so painfully slow, that after 10 minutes of uploading the 2GB file, its still only at 1% uploaded, so th econversion process itself is going to take 8-12 hours, and then uploading it another 8-12 hours.

If you had it on a laptop, you could try going to the parking lot of one of the free 5G hotspots often found at stores or restaurants. Would only take minutes that way.

  • Did it work?  I might need to use that for some old DVcam footage.
