It costs more than $12,000 a month to keep Catholic Answers Forums operating, and we need to raise the funds for the next six months NOW.  More recently spammers have increased their efforts, yet we are working hard to keep the Forums safe and conducive to faithful discussion and spiritual growth.

    What a waste!

They shouldn't have employees unless they're making that kind of money from advertising. There's no way a website takes $12,000 a month to keep online. And fighting spammers doesn't take that much money either! Maybe they're paying it to all their moderators?

I just know that they kick off every traditionalist they can. They're a joke when it comes to the Faith.

I seriously doubt any good is done by that wishy-washy Novus Ordo forum. If some good is accidentally done there, there is also "good" done by secular forums like GodLikeProductions.com or GaiaOnline.com. In fact, I know someone personally (a distant relative) who thinks he has saved lives by preventing youths from committing ѕυιcιdє because of his posting/chatting on GaiaOnline.  So a video game forum can save lives too, I guess.

  • Catholic Answers is pathetic...the EWTN of "Catholic" forums...I've been kicked off several times for defending tradition.  It's all about money in the end and power struggles...as they say in the soulth, it makes you want to fight your daddy...

  • Over $12,000 a month? Wow.

I really hope that place closes. It's a joke.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I owe a special debt to Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P. of Catholic Answers that deserves acknowledgment here.

  • Anyone remember a few years back when Karl Keating (owner of CA) got banned from Angelqueen? That was simply hilarious..... :roll-laugh1:

  • They'd deserve it if they had to close up shop.  Good Riddance to bad theology!
    They aren't real Catholic answers.

  • $12,000 a month? Does anyone believe that? That means it costs $144,000 a year to run Catholic Answers forums. Maybe Mr. Keating should contribute a good portion of six figure salary to keep the forum going instead of begging for it.
    Pray for me, always.

  • One really good idea for CAF would be for them to take people they banned off of their e-mail list asking for money!

I'm not good enough to post on your forum, but you have the gall to ask me for $$ to keep it going? This could make for a really interesting reply letter.  :scratchchin:

    Any suggested responses?

There is absolutely no way that forum is worth $12k a month. I think better ways to spend $144k a year in service of the Lord may be limitless...

  • CathInfo certainly delivers a far better "bang for the buck".

And it doesn't cost many "bucks" either -- despite the high traffic.

But, then again, I don't have any payroll.

Won't you help keep this important outreach going? Please make your most generous donation today and help us reach our $75,000 goal so that we can keep Catholic Answers Forums up and running for the next six months.

What are they doing wrong that they need $150k a year to run a message board?

I think the frivolous and inept GSA could run a message board for less money than that!

Do they pay Thomas Casey 50k a year to ban Trads.. I mean "moderate".. the forum?

Matthew, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you have to try pretty hard to spend 150k a year running Cath Info? You'd have to buy gold played keyboards or something.

  • Banning all those "offensive" posters amounts to "thought control."  In other words, subject peoples (us) aren't allowed to have unathorized conversations and they actually get the same subject peoples to donate large sums of money to them!   :fryingpan: :fryingpan: :fryingpan:

  • A dedicated server costs between $174 and $374 a month.

    http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated

    Intel Xeon 3470+ (Quad Core)
    8 GB DDR3 Memory
    2 X 500 GB Hard Drives
    10 TB Bandwidth
    5 Dedicated IPs
    FREE cPanel

You could run ANY website, no matter how high the traffic, on one of those servers.

So a drop-dead awesome dedicated server costs $374 a month -- where are they spending the other $11,626?

  • Well, let's see, they have to buy ads on other websites, to get new traffic to replace the attrition. Ads cost.
And then there's the moderators, oh, wait, we already mentioned those.

Maybe it's like the NY Times, which ran into trouble recently when net worth declines started cutting into the entitlements of the 42 or so owners who live off the returns from investments?

I think it has to do with Vatileaks. They're trying to defend the indefensible, and that's always expensive. It would explain the "next 6 months" schpiel.

The current asking price for Free Republic is $360,000 a year.  Seriously.  People believe it and contribute.
