A dedicated server costs between $174 and $374 a month.

    http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated

    Intel Xeon 3470+ (Quad Core)
    8 GB DDR3 Memory
    2 X 500 GB Hard Drives
    10 TB Bandwidth
    5 Dedicated IPs
    FREE cPanel

You could run ANY website, no matter how high the traffic, on one of those servers.

So a drop-dead awesome dedicated server costs $374 a month -- where are they spending the other $11,626?

Maybe they're suffering from the same problems the local N.O. diocese is?

    Those lawsuits can get expensive.

  • As someone who uses a free forum host for their forum (InvisionFree), I most certainly couldn't imagine spending 12,000 to keep my forum up! That is ridiculous.

Not to mention that CAF is not worth that kind of money. If I were to ever buy an existing forum, I wouldn't pay a penny to buy CAF, much less 12,000.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

What are they doing wrong that they need $150k a year to run a message board?  [....]  Do they pay Thomas Casey [$]50k a year to ban Trads.. I mean "moderate" .. the forum?

None of the staff that benefits from the egregious begging by CA has yet figured out that incompetent archiving at <http://www.catholic.com/> would explain why broken links have persisted in tables-of-contents of some on-line issues of This Rock.  I discovered (probably back in 2012) that replacing "www" by "archive" in some URLs, i.e., to <http://archive.catholic.com/[....]>, made some CA pages accessible again
    • .  Or if any of their staff has figured it out, no one among them has fixed it yet!

I'll consider accepting a computing-consulting fee from CA, but I won't hold my breath: I've learned, in other fields of activism, that lawyers insist on being paid for their work, while arrogantly expecting to receive for free the products of extensive work by nonlawyer experts.

Note *: Notably a 1996 'Dragnet' column by Keating in which I was surprised--how naïve!--to read his hostility toward SSPX.

  • This is one beggar that I'll let "starve to death" gladly!
"This principle is most certain: The non-Christian cannot in any way be Pope. The reason for this is that he cannot be head of what he is not a member. Now, he who is not a Christian is not a member of the Church, and a manifest heretic is not a Christian, as is clearly taught by St. Cyprian, St. Athanasius, St. Augustine, St. Jerome, and others. Therefore, the manifest heretic cannot be Pope." -- St. Robert Bellarmine

  • Charles Coulombe told me once you could tell "it weas Catholic.  the sermons are boring and they are always asking for money - 'behold the buck of the priest, mystically 'transubstantiated from my dollar into his'"

  • Good. I hope that modernist radio station and all its modernist hosts go away forever.

I have a dual core 8MB cloud server with 5TB bandwidth and 5IPs (running Windows no less) for $62 per month.  And it's a cloud so I can up the horsepower on demand.

You could get a very beefy server (4 core 7GB RAM) on Microsoft Azure with load balancing and geographic redundancy and MS SQL Server for about $400 per month.

  • vBulletin offers a cloud service for forums that includes all the software, free upgrades, free maintenance, etc. starting at $20 per month ... and the $20 offers very good performance.  You just point your DNS entries to it, configure it as you wish through the admin tool, and you're off and running.
