Firstly, I want to thank those who uploaded books using my CathInfo uploader a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted them during my panic when my server was hacked. I deleted the whole "upload" folder, including the files unfortunately. They're gone.
I can't use the Uploader, since that isn't secure. But what might work almost as well is using a THREAD ON CATHINFO for the same purpose. I have a pretty liberal max filesize on "attachments" for a post. 25 MB max per attachment, and 60 MB max per post. So you can zip up your favorite (or all) your eBooks, pdfs, etc. and attach them to a post in this thread. Then I can download them and add them to the AI's database.
Right now I want vetted, text-based books. Not huge collections with everything and the kitchen sink of questionable Traddiness. And not PDFs that are just a bunch of photos (books scans) inside, where you can't highlight & copy text. I want text-based books for now; not the scanned image kind. Later on, I'll have to set up some kind of OCR (optical character recognition) to turn those kind into text. But for now, during testing, let's stick with the text ones.
I'm excited because the thing is finally wired up. There's a ways to go of course, but I'm going to need more books. So I wanted to get this appeal out there ASAP.
You could even help by going to one of these massive archives (possibly focused on Catholic books) and sorting through them, getting me A) text-based ones and B) certified pre-Vatican II books, with nothing problematic.
Slowly building it up might be the best way to go.
