A Catholic Video Game

    • Well, I feel like it is time to start a new topic that I hope everyone would enjoy. My name is Nathan Smith and I made Maccabean Software for a reason. I have been developing the first ever catholic video game for over a year now. The game is called Angelic War. You play as Uriel the Archangel and you have to keep the evil forces of Satan away from purgatory. The final boss of the game is (you guessed it) Satan. I plan to release the game digitally in June for Microsoft Windows Computers and I want to hear what everyone in this great community would think of this. It is all a one man development. So, some things about the game are pretty amateurish. But, I hope you all would enjoy and appreciate this. I hope that this game would bring souls to Christ.

    Let me know what you think and I will do my best to provide more info on the game at hand. Thank you and God bless you all. Below is the game cover.

    • I think manual labor for a hour then a game of barnyard basketball would be a better option for Catholic boys.

    Manual Labor is great and healthy for anyone to do. But, I don't see what you mean by comparing a video game that would give all glory to Christ and teach catholics about spiritual warfare and the Bible to be like barnyard basketball. I find that insulting. But, that's your opinion and your allowed to think that. This game can be for girls too by the way.

    Wow, After looking at that, Amazing! I had no clue The Divine Comedy Dante's Inferno was also a video game. Very cool stuff! Thanks for pointing that out. I need to get that game now.  :cowboy:

    I think this sounds very interesting. As a newbie gamer, I do have a couple of questions:
    1. On the monetary side of things, is it free to play? I can definitely understand charging for the game as it'd take a great deal of time/imagination/work to put into it, and all that effort should be rewarded. But also I'm a sucker for free things (also I should probably mention I have a Windows machine, so this game is definitely interesting to me either way). :laugh1:
    2. This might seem a bit obtuse (again, I'm a newbie at this, so please forgive me if I'm slow to understand) What is the world-building like? Is it more of an RPG where there are different stories and quests, or is it a single overarching story? (Also if answering this question would give away spoilers, please feel free not to answer it.)
    3. From a tech standpoint, would you be interested in developing a version for Macs? You don't have to answer that one if you don't want to; I'm a bit of a techie, which is why I threw that question in

    I’d reconsider that if I were you. That particular game is full of blasphemy, nudity and anti-catholic themes.

    1. For your first question, The game will be $4.99 when it's released and I think that is a very fair price. The game will not be a triple AAA title by no means. The budget for the game was exactly $100 But, I am doing this for the glory of God. We are all a fan of free things. :jester: and that is why I am going to see how the game goes and maybe after a while I will decide on if I want to lower the price below $5 or even make it free. Also, The game is about 85% done right now. 
    2. Your good, I don't think your second question is obtuse at all. The game falls more into the category of a single overarching story. The game will be a 3D FPS. But, of course there will be no guns. You are Uriel the Archangel and your weapons are a sword and a shield including other weapons that are swords that shoot lasers (more or less representing the Sword of the Spirit in The Book of Ephesians.) and fireballs. The game takes place in purgatory and a few parts of hell. I am not going to go further into other information since that would of course be spoilers. Satan is the final boss and that is the only spoiler I am comfortable disclosing about the game right now. 
    3. For your third question, I can sadly not port it to Mac unless I could find someone who could figure out how. The reason being is the game depends on DirectX which is sadly Windows only. However, A Mobile version and a multiplayer online version of the game is in the books. But, I am not going into any detail on that and those may or may not happen. I will have to see how the future goes.

    Oh, I had no idea. I will do more research into the game Dante's Inferno before I purchase it then and I'll see how that goes.

    Is the object of the game for Uriel to encourage the Gentiles to round-up all the Jєωs and masons and put them into a reformation ghettos, where they are catechized?

    Sorry Mac. Didn’t mean to be insulting. If I were you, I would seriously consider if the goal of this endeavor is to form children into selfless responsible Catholic adults. I would suggest reading some lives of the saints to inform your decision.

I have been praying about this for a long time.  I love reading about the saints especially St. Bridget of Sweden.
