Title: "Ignore User(s)" function on CathInfo?
Post by: Himagain on August 16, 2014, 09:35:58 AM
I'm seeing posts in threads where a response is being made that includes a quote to a post that does not seem to exist in the thread.  So, I have come to wonder if there is an "ignore user" functionality available on CathInfo that I may have previously used and forgotten about.

Is there an "Ignore User" function?

If Yes, then how would I see who I may have previously selected to ignore?
How would I un-ignore those users, perhaps ignore some other users, or otherwise refine the settings/parameters of the function?

If No, then how (for example) does Matthew make a quoted reply to Ecclesia Militans in the second post of the thread at http://www.cathinfo.com/catholic.php/Official-SSPX-Transfers-2014-News-Thread when there is no previous post there by EM ?

Thanks

Don't worry. Unless you've chosen to HIDE (red button above each post) a certain poster, you haven't missed anything. If you had chosen to hide someone's posts you'd know it because not only would their post be hidden, but you'd have the option to 'VIEW' them again by pushing that green button which appears above the posts of anyone you're ignoring.

We're free to quote from any thread (as long as we're not breaking any rules). We can do this by opening another browser and finding the quote we wish to use, quoting them in a reply box, and pasting the quote into our reply on the first browser.

Thanks MariaCatherine, that clears that up nicely!

I didn't know that the "Hide" button hid the user, I assumed it was just the post.  But, I guess hadn't given it much thought, either.

To your knowledge, and just off the top of your head, is there a thread or something here that has some user-manual-like explanations of the features available here at CathInfo?
The "Help" button only leads to:
1. What is MbCode and how do I use it?
2. Why should I register?

For example, I haven't found a way to review my own previous posts.  Sometimes I'd like to see what responses there may have been to something I said last week/month/etc. , or maybe just where the conversation went from there.

I clicked the rating on a thread (not a comment thumbUp/Down), and then did not notice an indication anywhere that anyone had rated it at all.  How does that work?

I clicked that link for "New Posts" up to the left near my user name, and got a list of posts where the top one was "Merry  10:13 pm, Jul 12, 2014", next was " LuAnne
6:57 pm, Jul 9, 2014", etc.  Am I doing that one wrong, or misunderstanding it, or what?

Stuff like that and various other questions I've had before, but can't remember right now.  I'm really not asking for the tedium of your providing tech support on these relative minutia.  I just wondered if there was a place here to go find the answers myself.

To review your own posts you can click on your username, which will bring you to your profile. You can review anyone else's posts the same way.

I'm only guessing, but I think the 'rate this thread' simply doesn't work (although it did work for me once). Another feature that doesn't seem to work is the 'Buddy' button.

I don't know of a thread that answers these kinds of questions, but you should feel free to ask. If no one answers, you might ask Matthew.

The best thing to do is take some time to hover your cursor over things to see what's behind them!

Both of these were part of the original software and don't seem to serve much purpose. I think "buddy" will put the person's name in a drop-down in your messenger so that you can easily send a PM. The "rate this thread" doesn't work correctly if it works at all (and isn't all that useful even if it worked).

The 'new posts' button will list the first post of a thread where the most recent post was made. The first post could be years old, but the last post in the thread, which can be found by going to the last page of the thread, will be the most recent one made on the forum.

Thanks again!

Who knows,
Maybe this will become the "thread or something here that has some user-manual-like explanations of the features available here at CathInfo".
