That Ireland was, and that its apostasy has been so dramatically, rapidly precipitous AND recent (within living memory of most of its population) makes the scorn heaped upon a faithful Catholic living in Ireland that much more outrageous than that which is meted out in the barbaric heathen nations you mentioned.

I know quite a lot of Irish people, both over there and over here. And I'm not talking about 1st generation Americans. I'm talking about true Irish people. The Faith is undergoing a massive assault with the modern Irish. My father-in-law was an altar server growing up with the traditional Mass and being educated by cistercians. Now he does not live the Faith, and only goes to the NO, when he goes at all. I've gotten into online arguments in recent months with Irish people because of what was going on with the new abortion laws over there. I finally gave up, realizing what TCat has been saying here to be true, namely that Ireland has lost the Faith.

TCat, I can relate. I got into a lot of fights in my twenties. It's difficult to let go of the feeling of control that you had when most people feared you, but in most cases, it is devils who are coaxing you into losing your cool, so pray not to be tempted. Give control over to Our Lord. You will know when is the right time to fight and when is the wrong time. There is a right time, but it's not so frequent. Christ admonished Peter for cutting off the ear of the Roman soldier. Speak boldly, knowing that you can back up your words with fists if it comes to that, but always speak out of Charity. If someone wants to physically attack you for speaking Truth, then take care of it when that happens. Short of that, I would say that you should hold yourself back from fighting.

I don't get into trouble these days, it is one year since I was let out and it took its toll on me, but posters are right about both when to fight when necessary for beliefs and the unSaintly I suppose is the word manner of fighting with everybody.

I just have to accept that I will not convert some people and coldly examining the situation decide not even to try in the first place because I have my own vocation and it is not to be some thug, I wont reach many people if like axman here :dwarf:

Ireland has been losing the faith for a long time. My father is Irish. He's not Catholic and his parents were not Catholic. Not a single person in his extended family is Catholic. Most are staunch atheists with a sprinkling of Jehovah's Witnesses. This is nothing out of the ordinary in modern Ireland. I lived in Ireland for a few years and saw few traces of the true Catholic faith.

The important thing is you hold onto the faith, No matter what! Do what you gotta do for God and spurn no sacrifice for Him. Heaven is all that matters. If the kingdom will triumph without us, why shouldn't we stand under its protection and mortify ourselves praying the rosary reign also.

Don't give up on the idea of conversion. It is just a matter of methodologies. We have to live the faith in the holiness that Christ call us to and the Holy Spirit will do the rest. You will never know who or how what you have done will have an effect until the last day when we are judged.
