  • Family member is expecting the birth of first child (girl).

I want to provide a library for her, of course beginning with books for young children - picture board book types.
(As she matures, I'll solicit Hobbledehoy to compile a list of his books   )

I'm a bit underwhelmed with search results to date.  It seemed prudent to come to the forum for advice.

    Your recommendations / favorites ?

    Thank you.

    - Matthew, I wasn't certain which category was most appropriate for this topic. Please move as needed.

  • My favorite for the youngest "readers":

The Saving Name of God the Son (board book)

  • I think the only other good Catholic board books that we have are Christmas-themed ones:

Saint Nicholas: The Real Story of the Christmas Legend

    The Little Drummer Boy

    Christmas in the Manger

  • If you can't find the right books, consider laminated holy cards on a ring, just punch a hole in the corner and make your own little book.

  • Neumann Press (<-- correct spelling) did have a good selection of traditional Catholic children's books, but they're all out of print right now since the company closed. I recommend waiting to look for these as I'm sure a good number of them will come back into circulation soon enough. (soon enough for a baby who isn't born yet, anyway!  )

You can see their offerings as of the time they closed at this link. (I'm happy they left their website up as they give previews of many of the books.)

  • Thank you immensely for your responses.  I'll collect what I can and improvise the rest (holy cards on a ring - very creative!)

  • Angel in the Waters by Regina Doman is a wonderful little book!

    Angel in the Waters link
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.
