St. Jerome complains of those who misquote and distort the Scriptures -- why couldn't someone do that with Tradition as well?

If the Word of God isn't immune to being twisted by men to say things it doesn't -- why would the writings of the Fathers and Doctors of the Church be immune?

The chatty old woman, the doting old man, and the wordy sophist -- all take up the Scriptures, tear them in pieces, and teach them before they have learned them.
