  • Hi there, Adrienne.

Firstly, it is not a sin for women to wear pants. Secondly, this is the single most done to death topic on the net and can get people going for that fact alone.

I did not read the article, because I am over the topic myself, but the main arguement against pants is the attitude behind their adoption by women and the consequent attitudes they are said to predispose them to.

Take your time to decide for yourself if and when to wear pants. For example I was at a park with some other Catholics. I knew there was a playground there, so there was no way my daughter was wearing anything but pants. She was the only one and was also the only one without a skirt wrapped around her head with her underwear and bare torso hanging out.

Plan ahead and use common sense. Learn the difference between being Catholic and being a kook. I care more that my daughter can use some play equipment without looking naked than I do about what some ubercatholic thinks about her attire.

On the other hand, if there was no truely practical reason, I would never let her wear them and she is in no doubt as to the reasons why.

My rule is simple. Sport - pants only. No sport - no pants.

If you have all day free to read about women and pants, you can search any Catholic forum for "women" and "pants". Remember to always wear your seat belt when reading about women and pants.

  • What happened to little girls wearing shorts under their dresses? I didn't grow up with any sort of no-pants rule, but I still had shorts under my dresses for playground activities.

  • These days I would worry more about things that are sinful, than just girls in pants.

It is my opinion that there are times when a women is more modest in loose pants than a skirt.

I said this before, if men can wear a dress for certain occasions, a women can wear pants for certain occasions.

Having said all that, I hate tight pants, I hate all jeans on girls, I hate short short, or even long shorts, I prefer Capri length or long lose baggy pants, culottes are nice, modest and feminine in my opinion.

Wearing pants to church is a no, no, even if you are cleaning the church, it is respectful to wear a longer skirt, unless you are going to climbing a ladder to wash wall, windows or decorating the church.

If the guys prefer a women not to wear pants that is there choice, but since this is a thread here I voiced my 2 cents. My husband never says anything about my choice of clothes, but he would be shocked if he saw me wearing pants to church.   I also do not agree that when a women is wearing loose pants her attitude changes, if her mood changes it is not because of wearing a particular outfit, that is unless it is too darn tight and pinching her you know what.  Disgusting!

    Please pray for my soul.

  • Myrna has a point about jeans on girls. There are very few jeans that look modest on them, most of them are tight. I guess if a girl could find a pair of jeans that are loose and modest, then that's fine as long as they aren't worn to Church.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I wish pants were the worst thing we had to worry about.

I would say baptism of desire is the most overdone topic here.

  • Well, then this may be the second most overdone topic.

  • A protestant friend of mine wears skirts but she wears jeans beneath them (and that takes care of that problem). She lives out in the desert, and it doesn't bother her. A lot of people wonder how she's able to get around and do everything that she does wearing a skirt. It certainly never stopped her from riding bikes, climbing trees, or doing some sort of crazy stunt.

She's referring to what can be revealed on either side by pants that are too tight. Especially on women who are bigger.

The fact that these parts are even on some sort of display at all by wearing pants puts them off limits for me unless I am wearing a very long top.
