What motivated me to enquire at the convent was after a conversation with a girl, whom I know. She was demoralised that no local people joined the pro-life protest outside the office of the politician. She had two others with her. None were local people. This was the day after the vote on abortion. There is a general apathy towards politicians in Ireland.
I thought I should enquire at the convent as I remembered one of the sisters photographed with two politicians, who voted for abortion. To be fair, the photograph was before the vote and in the context of a heritage group evening. There were others in the photograph too. The nun is a historian and written several books.
Her order are around since 1831 and whilst I didn't want to patronise here, I reminded her of who the enemies of Catholics are.
When I called the politicians "pro-abortion" politicians, she said we shouldn't judge or label. Both have recently voted for abortion.
To be fair, she was pleasant and said she had written to the politicians on the issue.
She may or may not join the pickets in future. She is aware of it and up to her.
Whilst I did say to her, her order helped to ruin the schools and the Church, the enemy would think nothing of shooting us down in the streets.
It's up to her order but whilst dying out any ways, they need to fight back.
Well, they voted for abortion. It hardly seems judgmental to point that out. I had an interesting conversation with a woman in a coffee shop who (politely) asked by about a pro-life pamphlet I had on my table, intending to leave it there. She asked if she could see it, and I told her she was welcome to keep it. She flipped through it, thanked me for offered it to her, and asked me if I agreed with it. I told her I did. She said, "I definitely do not, but there is one thing we agree on. I don't like the term pro-choice either. Choice about what? The issue is abortion. Are you for it or against it? I am pro abortion, and proud it it. Fetuses are not people. Abortion is safer than carrying a fetus to term, and there are too many people in the world anyway. I don't want to force anyone to have an abortion, but generally, women who are pregnant should. If they want kids, adopt one that is already here."
I was a bit stunned, and I don't remember what I said, if anything. Thinking about it later, as wrong as she was, at least she has the courage of her delusional convictions.
