Title: Wishing Everyone A Merry Christmas
Post by: Hank Igitur on December 25, 2023, 10:04:50 AM
May everyone at Cathinfo have a Merry Christmas!

Note: This Christmas wish is only for Catholic Christians and not for any heretics who say "Happy Holiday."

Merry Christmas to all here on CI!

"For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them." - Luke 10:24

For this occasion, I have been continually drawn to Virgil's Fourth Eclogue (https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Eclogues_of_Virgil_(1908)/Eclogue_4), as it expresses with profound language the desire of the pagan world in its longing for Christ. Here is a selection:

Quote
From heav'n descends a novel progeny;
 Now to this child in whom the iron race
Throughout the world shall cease and turn to gold,
Extend thy aid, Lucina, chaste and kind,
For thy Apollo reigns. This glorious age,
Pollio, will dignify thy consulate;
Then shall great months their wondrous course commence
Under thy rule what trace may yet remain
With us of guilt, shall vanish from the earth
Leaving it free for ever from alarm.
He will accept his life as of the gods
With whom the heroes mingle; seen by them
The whole world will he rule, now set at peace
By his great father's power: to him shall bring
Uncultured earth her first small offerings,
Creeping wild ivy, arums, foxgloves too,
Smiling acanthus with bright polished leaf.

Indeed, not as elegant as Virgil, but a Blessed Feast of the Nativity to all —even to heretics and pagans. May God's graces fall on them also.

Merry Christmas to everyone, members and visitors of this forum and their families!

Let the love, peace, truth bring light to this dark times, dark world. Unlike our Blessed Virgin Mary, Catholic Church will have to go through birth pangs to be "reborn" in the Triumph of Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Sretan Božić!

The Burning Babe
BY ROBERT SOUTHWELL SJ (https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/robert-southwell)
As I in hoary winter’s night stood shivering in the snow,
Surpris’d I was with sudden heat which made my heart to glow;
And lifting up a fearful eye to view what fire was near,
A pretty Babe all burning bright did in the air appear;
Who, scorched with excessive heat, such floods of tears did shed
As though his floods should quench his flames which with his tears were fed.
“Alas!” quoth he, “but newly born, in fiery heats I fry,
Yet none approach to warm their hearts or feel my fire but I!
My faultless breast the furnace is, the fuel wounding thorns,
Love is the fire, and sighs the smoke, the ashes shame and scorns;
The fuel Justice layeth on, and Mercy blows the coals,
The metal in this furnace wrought are men’s defiled souls,
For which, as now on fire I am to work them to their good,
      So will I melt into a bath to wash them in my blood.”
      With this he vanish’d out of sight and swiftly shrunk away,
      And straight I called unto mind that it was Christmas day.

I wish all here at CathInfo, and visitors also a most holy and joyous Christmas.

Still Christmas!! It's the Octave of Christmas, so, Merry Christmas to you all!. This mysterious Feast actually produces good effects in society...Catholic nations anyway that have their roots in God. Have you noticed that vitriol in some posts is greatly reduced? People are being civil and polite and charitable in their arguments. Hope it lasts. When I was a kid, I remember that even far away wars would halt for Christmas Day.:pray: Fast forward to 2023, and the dozens of conflicts and wars don't stop at all!
 WW I, at exactly midnight on Christmas, German soldiers started singing "Silent Night" "Stille Nacht" while standing on the Front. The French ? soldiers thought it was a trick. But after 5 minutes, cigars were lit, wine or liquor was offered to them and after, all the day they visited with each other, Happy hours. Next day the battle continued, but the Germans were purposely shooting OVER the heads of their newfound friends. A week later, yeah, you guessed it...
But  Joyeux Noel ! anyway.
