  • I think most people here would agree that our economy should be organized in such a way as to strongly discourage women from working and strongly encourage men to work.  However, we all have to deal with this economy, even if it is organized by people who seem hostile to virtue and chummy with vice.  So, what do we do?

Some facts to include in your answers please.

~2/3rds of american full time workers earn less than 40k per year, 75% earn less than 50k.  26% of full time workers earn less than 15k per year.  Does this mean that only 1/3rd or 1/4 of working men are eligible for marriage?

~70% of divorces are filed by women, but 30% are filed by men.  Trads get divorces too.

~You can't get blood from a turnip.  If you get divorced or your husband Or wife loses their job or their mind  :jester:, you may very well have to support yourself and your kids all by yourself.

~Lots of women are working right up to the point of delivery, then go back to work in just 2 weeks.  Look at Sarah Palin (both work extremely demanding jobs and they had six kids, still, they are probably a "dsyfunctional family").  Many employers, but not all, are willing to be accommodating to their female employees.  I know a nurse who had 14 kids working full time.  I know another woman who has 11 and is a regional manager for a major restaurant chain.

~Children go crazy if they don't have a full time parent at home.

~Adults need another adult full time at home, just to keep them sane.

~Some studies concluded that children raised by mr. moms were better raised than their counterparts.  Mostly because dad doesn't spoil/pamper  them as much (good for confidence and self control).

~Women who work usually go insane.  You think I'm kidding?  Those who stay home do to, but sometimes life is all about "how much."   :jester:

  • My wife worked as part of our family business, mostly doing accounting.  This never required her to leave the house (not that she didn't often leave the house for other reasons, of course) and never, that I can recall, interfered with her being the parent who primarily took care of the children.  When the business grew to the point this this was in danger, we hired a part time accountant as well.  This was a big part of why we chose to earn our living with a business that we owned.

The business was very successful.  It made a good living for us, and I am enjoying the fruits of this labor in retirement now that I have sold it.

So, you think that stay at home work is a good way to do it.  If so, I think so too.  I would think one way to do it would be to try and reduce your monthly bills by living with family, until you can pay cash for your home, buy a home with at least 5 acres and grow your own food and produce your own utilities and gasoline, with ethanol.  Do your own home and car repair.  Become a "tailor" and make your own clothing.  Apparently, you can even "melt" scrap rubber into molds for soles of shoes.  They've got schools for shoemaking.

If somebody invested in this overtime, they could develop it and teach it to their kids.  Those kids could probably support a wife and a dozen kids on, if need be, a full time minimum wage job and live in a safe neighborhood, with fresh air, plenty of space, good dependable transportation, plenty to eat and nice clothes.  Of course, you've both got to really want to do it.

Someone is envious of a man having his wife work?

Okay, come on, folks.  Why would anyone possible down thumb this?  It did work out well for my family.  My wife did not work outside the home.  I made that pretty clear.  is the down thumber simply annoyed that I had a good family life?  or that my wife, whom he did not even know, was competent at accounting and a good mother?

  • My wife is a 24 hour a day wife and mother.  We don't go on vacation.   My wife does not buy vanity things including make-up, Jєωelry, beauty salons, vanity magazines.  We buy what we need.  We do not fix little things in our house like doors (inner house doors) that do not shut or lock, drapes that are falling off or carpets with stains.  I have holes in my underwear, socks and shoes.  I wear 3 pairs of paints that are decades old and two others that are newer.  All my shirts are equally old.  My younger daughter gets hand-me-downs from the older.  My wife very rarely gets new clothes (see what you ladies are missing).  I do not make much money at all.  Yet we manage to pay our bills on time and give $1200 away a year to clergy plus some additional amount to the poor.  We completely trust in God not to give us more than we can handle and know this will be the case if we live by His Law.  Neither of us buys alcohol or cigarettes.

Do all this and stay completely open to life at all times and see what happens.

Of course in a Catholic society, the widow would be provided for and there would be MUCH less promiscuous single mothers.  Very few separations.  Many children that would eventually be able to support the parents.

    See "MOMMY WHERE ART THOU"

    http://www.dailycatholic.org/issue/11May/may7ftt.htm

I grew up wondering what was wrong with society and started to realize contraception and the broken family had a lot to do with it.  I geared most of my studies on how to be a good Catholic husband and father and what to look for and not look for in a good Catholic wife and mother.

I have found the perfect wife and mother, in comparison to all I know, including those who go to traditional chapels.  My wife feels the same way about me for some reason.

Doing this automatically helps you avoid the common mistakes so many make.  I know the Catholic Church does not allow divorce and this is not an option.  This needs to be known before one enters a marriage.

See THE DEVIL NEVER SLEEPS (MODESTY)

"I receive Thee, redeeming Prince of my soul. Out of love for Thee have I studied, watched through many nights, and exerted myself: Thee did I preach and teach. I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. If I have ever expressed myself erroneously on this Sacrament, I submit to the judgement of the Holy Roman Church, in obedience of which I now part from this world." Saint Thomas Aquinas the greatest Doctor of the Church

That's a good question and I thumbed you up for asking it.  I don't know why anyone would thumb this down and I'm wondering if someone did it by accident, but if not maybe the down thumber will post a response and let us know.

  • Sigismund,

:confused1: You would wonder, wouldn't you. You very helpfully answered the original post in an entirely appropriate manner and some wise guy is not happy that you have a wonderful wife and family, but has to make snide remarks.

Thing is, they haven't done it. You have! Blessed are the peacemakers.
