  • I don't wear super-long skirts (generally), but I never wear pencil skirts, and thus never have a problem moving in skirts.  Way easier fit and movement and modesty issues.

I am a product of the modern society and likely affected by the novus ordo mentality, even though I've been Traditional for the last 10 years, so with that caveat I am going to wonder aloud what comes to my mind about women wearing pants.  It seems to me that pants have become a neutral (only in modest cases) not necessarily drawing attention nor detracting from femininity.  One reason I prefer to wear pants to the market or to hang out at Panera, is that pants help make me be more invisible.  I feel safer in pants than in a dress or skirt.  Men say they prefer women in skirts.  Yea, what does that mean?  I don't trust that men can be totally honest about their preferences without referring to what appeals to them sɛҳuąƖly.  Sorry guys, you all don't deserve that, but many do.  Skirts, no matter what the length, suggest easier access.  Maybe that's just a man-joke, but obviously its true.  Skirts seem to make women more vulnerable because there is little way to protect what's under them. Skirts are difficult to control, too.  They don't always cover because they can fly up and easily be immodest when unbeknownst to the wearer, ten exposed minutes later, a gal has to leave embarrassed.  Not to mention having scandalized those present.  I feel like I have to watch myself in a skirt or dress, how I move, how I look.  It can be a pain.  I don't want to always be aware of what I look like or what I'm doing, taking time and effort to tuck and re-tuck my skirt in under my legs to be sure I haven't made a mistake.  I never wear anything shorter than calf length skirts, so it isn't a matter of how short they are (shorter is worse of course) but a matter of the skirt itself; even floor length skirts catch on stuff.  I'm not looking for a man, so I'm not interested in being “seen.”  I'm a writer, so I want to be able to sit in public and not wear clothes that distract me from what I'm doing.  Skirts are such a distraction for me, I kind of deplore them because they have a tendency to force me to think of me. It seems to me skirts actually foster vanity. I'm sure there are women who will say that they are not so affected by their skirts, and their skirt never flies up or catches on anything, but it has happened enough that I don't trust them and I never really feel safe in them. I take seriously all the things said about women in pants, but it sure doesn't seem like skirts and secular places go together.

Seems to me you need to get used to skirts if you want to give them a fair chance. Women or little girls who wear pants often enough sit and act in a clumsy manner. When they wear skirts they have to keep in mind they are wearing skirts and as soon as they forget, immodesty becomes manifest.

When you wear only skirts, gracefulness becomes second nature. Skirts are only "unsafe" when they are immodest and/or worn to the wrong place. I only wear long skirts and have ridden a woman's  bike multiple times and to many places and never caught it anywhere.

I should be used to long skirts after all these years...don't know why I'm not.

  • It took me about a year to get fully converted to wearing skirts all the time. My reasons for holding out were:

    1) What will people think?
    2) I'm going to stand out.
    3) Oh no! What will people think!?
    4) I'm to cheap to overhaul my wardrobe.
    5) What will people think...

Obviously, what people thought of me was way too important to me. In fact, the skirt wearing was a good prelim for other, more difficult outward signs of faith that would need to be made manifest as I learned more about what it was to be Catholic.

I will admit, there are times that skirts can be a pain. The skirts I wear usually go down the my ankles. This isn't always on purpose. I am short, so unless I hem the skirt or make my own, almost all of my skirts I buy are too long. The main problem with this is that I travel up the steps in my house about 20 times a day, many times with two hands full. There's nothing more annoying than stepping on your skirt all the way up the stairs!  :roll-laugh1: This could be remedied if I would take the time to hem them all, though.
I work outside a lot, and they do get hung up on things frequently. Oh well, that's ok.
On windy days, I wear a skirt or dress with heavier material. Usually does the trick.
Though I don't live on a farm now, I used to, and farm chores generally aren't much harder to complete in a skirt. Some minor adjustments must be made, but nothing a gal can't get used to.

I do agree, that it takes some skill to wear dresses and skirts gracefully. But it's a skill worth learning. This skill alone helps immensely to become more feminine overall.

IMO, it's all just a matter of getting used to it. Take it from someone who loves to use excuses- one will always find an excuse if they haven't committed themselves fully to the cause. If you're on the fence about it, why not just try it exclusively for a few months, no exceptions. It's only a few months, afterall. I think most would find the outcome much more pleasant than they expected.
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

Thanks jen51, a very wise and beautifully feminine response!

This is so true. Although for now, I better stick to the long ones just in case.   :-)

Thank you for admitting this and proving my point when I said it is about too much desire for human respect from the secular world.

For me, not so much about human respect. I fly in the face of too many with zero concern about what they think. For me, the loss of any perceived freedom remains difficult.  What people think about me is so much furniture. I admit that I enjoy refusing to rise to the occasion of what is expected, yet, I'm ever growing to respect what is specifically Catholic.  Ultimately, that may not be a better, or a good way to be, just the truth.

  • The Taliban can go pound sand; whether they self identify as Islamic Taliban , or as traditional catholic Taliban .

The 5.11 chain sells an excellent range of pants designed for 'women on a mission.'
I'm a fan, and so are my wife and daughter .
Their workmates are often jealous of their comfortable, practical, modest and utilitarian pants.
They haven't  heard too many lewd looks or words, only a few from scuмbags that would have said exactly the same to a toothless burka wearing granny.

  • And, do not vote for Hillary Clinton. She is "Ms Pants".
Many women that wear pants are doctrinaire left wingers, liberals,
    communists.

I hope you and your family enjoy your pants at your long stay in purgatory.

If you are saying that people who believe women should only wear skirts are the taliban then you are proclaiming St Thomas Aquinas, Padre Pio, Pope Benedict XV, Pope Pius XI XII, St Hildegard.

Padre Pio would refuse absolution to women who wore pants.  Do you think you are smarter than a Man who conversed with God on a regular basis?

This is what you're endorsing for your women?? That's extremely BUTCH.

And women "on a mission?" What, are you saying you think ladies should be in combat or something??

I don't need my daughters growing up to look like park rangers, *cough* LESBIANS *cough*
