Why some heinous sins are widespread

  • Because people are A) too soft (living in objective luxury) and B) have way too much free time, and moreover C) have no sense of purpose -- nothing to work toward besides pleasure and amusing themselves.

The thought entered my mind today, after reading a "dear Abby" type post, asking about what I would call "behavior of a grown up kid who should have been spanked more". The behavior he was asking about was against the sixth commandment -- and probably mentioned in Deuteronomy as well.

I was thinking -- this poor man has two strikes against him. #1 -- he lacks the wisdom and guidance of the True Religion. #2 -- he would not be thinking about such things if he had to grow his own food, or work a REAL job for a living. It's only today's subdivision-dwelling posh middle class that have the leisure (and lack of self-discipline) for such sins.

Even many JOBS today are nonsense. In a real job (i.e., digging, construction, farming) there is no such thing as "water cooler chat" or "surfing the web on company time". How many people today work in Retail -- where you are idle as long as there are no customers, and that is fine. Chit-chat fills a good part of every day.
