Keep in mind, too, that in today's godless age, the family is another sick joke... so kids are turning to their (fake, hypocritical, fickle) "friends" to replace that. Which is why they need their phones with them at all times. It's like a 3-year-old carrying around his security blanket everywhere.
Of course, there are all kinds of tragedies about modern life, but as you say, what's needed out there is the Catholic Faith. Unfortunately, another great tragedy of modern times, is the idea of putting that faith in a box, or on the shelf when you walk out your door. The Catholic faith was, however, never meant to keep to ourselves (like the man who took the one talent and buried it). If the majority are non-Catholic, it's because there are not enough Catholics out there who are so on fire with their faith that they are living examples of the goodness, and truth and what have you of the Catholic Faith, so that people can see it and convert.
We need rosaries in the hands of serious Catholics, getting the finish worn off of them to try and save these people, and we need Catholics with as much guts and audacity as those who hate God have in publicly offending Him, who are willing to go out there and live the Faith publicly and strongly (and with charity, of course), especially in personal relationships, no matter what people are going to think of them for doing it.
If the Catholics were taking their Faith with them everywhere they went, and especially in their relationships with non-Catholics, and being a good example, the crisis and tragedy that is modern life would start to turn around. That so many out there are going through life totally ignorant of the faith, when there are supposedly how many Catholics...? To me, that's the biggest tragedy of all.
Of course, you can't be a light to the world if you put that light in a closed community somewhere, just being happy about that great Latin Mass you've got.
