Ebonics?
Haha. At my middle school which was in the city area I still spoke normal. People respected that and I spent a lot of time with this kid who was Slavic and spoke "proper English", too.

It is a melting pot. My family settled in a town called Suches, Ga before my parents met and had me in the Atlanta hospital which was the closest one in 2008, before moving closer to the city. I moved in and around, my worst experience was in Blairsville and Young hαɾɾιs. Which are 2 hours north of the city in the Blue Ridge mountains, mostly southern accents, significantly more white people and a number of Jєωιѕн families.

English has relatively simple grammar, no genders, fairly easy verb conjugations, and within broad limits, nobody really cares if your grammar isn't perfect, you'll be understood regardless.  The big kicker is the spelling.  It basically has to be memorized.  In a pinch, it can also be spoken at a pidgin level, which makes it even simpler.

Voilà! Here I am throwing the 560 page book at you!   French is difficult. Period.
But it is a great sounding language.  The real sophisticated ones speak too softly.

I get much more from reading the Bible in French...probably because it's my mother tongue.

Quebec has so many language laws...businesses are not to send emails in English!!! French is certainly declining , when the gob't has to enact laws for people to speak it...Absurd. In the '60s, contraception was rampant there...fast forward to 2020 no more children = loss of a culture.  Now it has tons of immigrants: most speak a corrupted French from Haiti etc.

Bon voyage!

Because of the British Empire, American hegemony and the internet. Knowing English is a way to success and being marketable worldwide compared to other languages. The only other language that may come close is Russian, but that is slowly changing in favor of English as former Soviet nations slowly fall out of favor with Moscow.

Compared to other major languages, English grammar is easier. Think about conjugating verbs. Romance languages have a different ending for every personal pronoun. For English you just add an 's' to the 3rd person. It's just more practical. Understanding two-word verbs is hard though.
