  • If your wife is asking for dresses for a gift, you have a big problem.

Your wife should be able to buy her own dresses.
I’m sure you’re very happy with your wife when she allows you buy the next Lego set retard

  • I know my wife would like dresses — she told me. :fryingpan: I just don’t know where to buy modest ones because I don’t often look or care about dresses.
Most women don’t ask their husbands to buy them dresses!! We like to go shopping ourselves!! Or with female friends. My husband would find going to a women’s clothing store slow torture 🤣 You could get something on Amazon. They have all styles on there. Long dresses too.

  • My husband loves to buy me beautiful things that I wouldn’t buy myself. He’s bought me dresses before because he knows I love them but is scared he’ll get something wrong so he will ask his mom for advice. I’ve loved all the clothes he’s ever gifted me. He puts so much thought into them based on what he thinks I will likeThey were things I would have never splurged on for myself.

Also, why are you assuming that because he’s getting his wife some dresses for Christmas that she’s not allowed to buy her own clothes normally?  I think it’s great he’s buying her dresses for Christmas!
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one's self unspotted from this world.

I guess you missed his comment:

She can pick out dresses for herself but she still needs approval from me so that she doesn’t have free rein with the finances. It’s a pretty common system. If you let your wife have unbridled access to your credit card without consulting you about purchases — that’s unprecedented lol

  • Dude why are you being so gαy lol. Does your wife have complete control over your finances so that she can buy whatever she wants, whenever she wants? If I can’t get her dresses for Christmas (lol) what am I supposed to get her instead: a raccolta and some incense? :laugh2:
That would be a lovely gift for any Catholic for Christmas!

I know my wife would like dresses — she told me. :fryingpan: I just don’t know where to buy modest ones because I often don't look or care about dresses.

If you don't care about dresses you are the last person who should be picking one out!

There's more to picking out a dress than the colour or fabric.
If you truly want to please your wife give her a gift certificate for the store where she usually shops for a dress, and buy her an additional little gift of something she'd never splurge on for herself.

Something you've put a lot of thought into and bought with love will mean more to her than something she asked for.

I guess it depends which spouse is the more extravagant. The less extravagant one should keep an eye on the one who overspends!! A priest said to me once that in a successful marriage, one partner is the brake and the other is the gas. I have had my extravagant moments before I was married but in our marriage I’m probably the one more cautious with money. But we both agree big things were buying and trust each other to be sensible over smaller purchases.
I really like second hand stores for clothes, you could look there for a dress also eBay and Vinted.

  • My Dad would occasionally buy a dress for Mom, and once, he came home from a business trip with matching turtle print shirts, ties, a dress and skirts for everyone.  (Family in-joke, but yes, we did all wear them to a barbecue!) After that, my mother wore hers and my sister and I wore ours as separate outfits with different tops, jackets, accessories, etc.
I don’t see why a husband shouldn’t buy a his wife a dress. He should save the tags and receipt just in case it doesn’t fit or it’s just not her style. Her husband should not get upset if she wants to exchange it.
Also, what’s wrong with the Raccolta and some incense?
Maybe my family was weird, but my mother usually bought all my father’s clothes.

Nothing at all. The reason I said that was because the contrarian in this thread was being pompous as if purchasing dresses for a women is beneath the dignity of Christmas gifts.

By the way, I did not ask for anyone‘s psychoanalysis. I asked my wife what she wants for Christmas, she said “idk maybe dresses”, so I wanted people to recommend nice modest dresses here. What I don’t need is for people to sperg out autistically and over analyze a simple request. How does “Looking for Catholic Dress Shop for Wife” turn into “let’s get into a political discussion about how you are a misogynist if you buy things for your wife”.

Hahaha I was going to say… if I porker ‘grass is green’ on this forum an argument will start. I did make a few (polite) comments but I also made some suggestions. Second hand clothes store, eBay, Vinted (dies that exist in USA?) Amazon… vi rage stores too like Rockabilly (1950s places) have some good dresses of she likes that style.

Yeah secondhand is a great way to get affordable, well made clothing.. both newer and vintage. But it is somewhat taboo to give secondhand as a gift. Just depends on the person

    Did find this:

I know at least some Amish make their own clothes, maybe they sell them as well
