I always thought this one was "the original."

Definitely not an old picture.  This was promoted by Sacred Heart Seminary in the US along with the picture of the Immaculate heart which was the most prominent example of being the same image just one with a beard.  Cover from the mustache down.  I'll try to find my copy of their book which has both images side by side.

The pictures very often are presented as a set...Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart (or Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart) If you see them side by side cover the lower half of the faces and you'll see they are the same image except one has a beard.  Those in my opinion or effeminate.  Here's an example.

and another

Yes, the top two are very nice ... (of course, meaning, per my own tastes) ... though I dcon't necessarily care for the fact that they constantly depict Our Lady as having these chubby / puffy hands (which evidently had been some ideal of feminine beauty back in the day).

You like pictures that are the same image for both male and female?

Here's an old set  followed by a set from the 1920's when pictures started turning the Immaculate Heart into the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart by adding a dagger in her heart probably because of the devotion of Berthe Petit spreading so quickly world wide.

1896 by Mexican painter José María Ibarrarán y Ponce:

The artist was a master at the Old Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico. He was also a fervent believer, and the painting was executed with true devotion and the soul of the artist himself.  These prints are direct reproductions of the original painting.
