What should I do when my parents watch television? The volume is loud, as they are hard of hearing, so I cannot just go to my room to escape it; they are deaf to my pleas that it is spiritually harmful, as they are agnostics. As they mainly watch PBS, some of it isn't too bad, but even PBS has been corrupted by gαy pride and the like.

I am sorry Anne, that must be tough! It was the same way at my dads house, he always had the TV turned up loud and there was nothing I could really do about it, except pray. So I really don't have an answer, sorry but I'll pray for you and your situation in my daily rosary! Also maybe you could do a novena to St. Jude about it! I did one to him a few weeks ago and my prayer has been answered, he really is the saint of impossible cases! God bless, I hope everything works out!

Ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones seem like the only answer to this noise pollution problem.

You might take a greater interest in being outside... or at least find the quietest part of the house.

I would be polite yet firm about your opposition to television. If you are a saint in every other way, they won't be able to fault you, and maybe it will even make them think!

I'd agree with the outdoors idea, or the earplugs/headphones idea. You can get classical music or chant or something like that to listen to, and if your headphones are good enough, you may be able to block most of it out.

Already it's a strong stand to not watch with them just because they've got it on. I know it's hard sometimes to stand up to that, or when friends want to go to the movies, but... on the other hand, there are so many other more interesting things to do!

This world is full of interesting things we can pick up and learn if we want. (Rosary making for instance. ^_-) Doing things like that rather than simply give up and watch with them, is a great first step if nothing else!

St. Therese once told her sister about a certain nun who would rattle her rosary beads in a noisy and irritating manner during communal prayer. She said that she found the noise so grating that it was impossible to concentrate on her prayers, so instead she offered Our Lord the annoyance and fought heroically against turning round and shooting the nun a nasty look.

It's not sinful for you to hear the TV (it's not sinful "to watch TV" either, its what you watch that makes it sinful) so don't worry about it from that perspective. Setting a good example by not watching the TV is a good start but as it is your parents' house there's unfortunately not much you can do about it :tv-disturbed:

Ah, right. Sorry, didn't realize. You're setting a good example by not watching then. In your situation I'd do what the others suggested- invest in some headphones and spend more time outdoors. There's over a thousand years of great music to explore! I'll pray that it gets better for you too.
