We are created in the image and likeness of God.  We are, in the state of grace, tabernacles of the Holy Ghost. Because of this we should dress and represent accordingly.  With that said, appearance becomes Vanity when the way we look to others for our own glory becomes more important, and obsessive than the way we appear as representative’s of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It also becomes vanity when the funds we spend on our appearance becomes detrimental to those needed to support our families and those entrusted to our care.  Like the guy who has the big screen TV and fancy car yet his kids have no money for lunch at school or to support his local chapel.

In my humble opinion.

The problem is far more in the opposite direction. Dressing elegantly is one of the few freedoms that we have left and not only on Sundays. Wearing a tie is an public male marker that won't find you accused of mysogyny or homophobia. In my office i'm the only one left with a tie 40 years after dress down fridays was introduced.

I agree.  My son generously gifted me with an ermine collar for my birthday this year and I intend to wear it to Christmas Mass.
