  • One thing about being in your twenties and living in rural suburbia is enjoying "nightlife". I have a good deal of friends and most weekends of my twenties have been spent doing things like bar crawls and dancing with live music. Going to various bars and clubs and engaging in all sorts of depravity. I converted a few years back and obviously had to leave a lot of that life behind and looking back it's pretty crazy how commonplace that party lifestyle is for so many people.

As I've become more moral and tried to actually live a virtuous lifestyle that entire culture is so bewildering. I was at a bar last night and just staring into the endless sea of young people and got overtook with this sense of dread over the purposeless of it all. It's incredibly vain.

I'm not really trying to judge, as I genuinely see the good in most people, but there is some kind of insidious evil that exists in so many common activities. It's not really an obvious evil either. It's people out "having a good time" but all that amounts to is drinking to excess (or doing other drugs), or flirting in hopes to engage in casual sex and all sorts of debauchery. I'm very grateful that even when I wasn't Catholic I always had a long term girlfriend and never engaged in "hookup culture". It's all just very disgusting and upsets me how common it is. My best friend's Dad, who's Brazilian and extemely Catholic, genuinely believes that demon's lurk around bars and night clubs and going anywhere near there is asking for trouble.

I guess on a positive note what do you guys do for fun with friends that's not this? I, unfortunately, live far away from most of my friend group now so our options for hanging out are very limited. I think from here on out I'd rather have people over and we can play a board game or something simple and have a few drinks instead of doing the whole nightlife thing.

Great idea! Simple could mean pizza, or chinese take-out, or six-foot sandwich, or chili, or just ask everyone to bring something to share. Board games and other games like Charades which get everyone to participate, buy or borrow a kareoki (sp?) machine for the singers in the group. Some groups of friends go bowling or play miniature golf (or real golf) or play basketball or volleyball and then go for burgers or whatever.
Pray for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

  • What about sports like hiking, canoeing, bicycling, tent camping, riding four-wheelers, or if that’s not a possibility, maybe a basketball game, work out at the gym, fishing, horseback riding, hunting, go to the range…Follow up with snacks or a barbecue, shoot the breeze around a backyard campfire, watch an historic game online, ie. USA vs. Soviet Union, 1980 Olympics.  If you have access to a wood shop, make projects together, play games like chess, checkers, dominoes, cards.  Do you like NASCAR, auto or horse racing? Demolition derby, or its opposite, a car show. None of these involve consumption of alcohol or patronizing businesses where there are apt to be scantily clad women. Going out for a few beers is fine, just be discerning about where you go.

We do the campfires a lot cause most of us are from rural suburban areas and we have country houses with backyards and the whole deal. We also hang out at eachothers houses from time to time and watch movies, videos, or play games. We try and mix it up.

I definitely need to get into more outdoorsy hobbies like you mentioned. I just moved to a town further in the country with lakes and mountains all around me. I'm going to save up and buy a canoe / kayak and get more into that next spring / summer for sure. A lot of outdoorsy hobbies have a big up front cost which dissuades me. I did join a boxing gym but unfortunately my work schedule has picked up and I haven't been able to make one class :/

Fishing would be a great hobby. My wife has told me she doesn't want to go fishing ever, so I'd have to do it solo lol.

  • She doesn't have to fish. She could still attend, just read or listen to music.

  • Go for a hike which any one can do.  And it costs nothing.  Go hiking with your wife.
It’s something you can do together.

You really don’t need alcohol and food to have a good time with others. Guys or girls night out is a lie.   People have been brainwashed into certain lifestyles.

Water sports can be expensive and dangerous.

Best thing is to pray hard, eat healthy, exercise and go to bed early to wake up early especially in a rural areas.

May God bless you and keep you

Not necessarily...long before mixed bars became popular, Catholics did have girls night and guys night out.
Christian Mother Archconfraternity in addition to their meetings had nights out for women only where they played games.
The Holy Name Society in addition to their meetings, a couple times a year had a men's night out, where they played cards etc. and yes booze was available.
There is nothing wrong with men and women enjoying time together with the same sex with activities that wouldn't be of any interest to their spouses.  It all depends on the activities.

  • Most women activities within the Catholic Church was during the day and it did not include drinks.

Many Catholic farmers and wives didn’t have time to go out at night because they had families to tend to. They had to get up early the next day to work.

Many Catholics can’t handle a few drinks.  And now many Catholics have turned to heroin, crack  etc.  St Patrick’s day has become a secular drinking holiday when it used to be a day of prayer and penance.

Choir, men’s groups or women’s groups involving laity or clergy involving booze and junk food many times have ended in adultery, fornification, lies,  sex abuse, hypocrisy, gluttony and other sins.  Same with these beef and beers and pocket book bingo.  Too much partying and not enough praying and teaching the gospel to their children. Many children leave the Catholic faith because their parents are lukewarm hypocrites living an unholy life.

Maybe we all should be getting together to pray the Rosary and read the Douay Rheims Bible more often.

And look at our society today. Too much celebrating instead of making sacrifices for our Lord, Jesus Christ.    The pseudo Catholic Church has abandoned God and His people.

We're obviously talking about to different things.

Women's activities were never during the day.  Neither were men's . They were always on a Friday or Saturday night.

I wasn't talking about farmers.  I lived in the city.

You make it sound like "many Catholics" can't handle a few drinks.  No more than any other religion.

You said, "Men's groups or women's groups end in adultery, fornication sex abuse" ...WHAT????  are they all ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ?????

I wasn't talking about praying the Rosary or any religious activity which Catholics do.  I was talking about Catholics SOCIALIZING with like minded Catholics...and there's nothing wrong with that.

Agreed. It reminds me of when I had a period where I very deeply studied the various feast days and traditions / customs associated with them. So many feast days were treated as very unique days for certain devotions and activities that it surely was designed to liven up the year / schedule. Almost every feast day you can think of has little customs and traditions that are basically all forgotten from most Catholics routines. It's really sad actually, it's like we've forgotten our own culture in a way.

I think the purpose of those celebrations and festivals were a wholesome way to expel some of this energy that so many people expel when they go out to nightclubs and parties. It's pretty natural when you have a routine to eventually get complacent and seek out some activities that make you feel more "alive" so to speak. I don't think there's anything wrong with that either, though it's probably the most common way that people engage in sin these days

You can socialize with your husband and family, neighbors  at home.  When we ( I taught) did home school co op most activities were during the day.  There was no booze, cigarettes, etc.

I never said these groups were all ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ.  (Yes, there have been  a priest and husband married to woman engaging in sodomy and another priest having an affair with a married woman.

And most Catholic organizations are mostly secular social clubs food, booze and gossiping too.  Plenty of political liberal social justice and very little of spreading the true gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

We can see the cities of violence, cesspools of sloth.  It’s in rural areas too with meth labs, booze, murder but it’s worse in the cities.  Most city Catholics are liberal democrats including the new pope.

  • When you look at the rotten fruits of the Pseudo Catholic Church and satanic society, there is way too much secular unholy socializing, gluttony, sloth etc  and not enough praying and working.

Young people are leaving the church because they know their parents were living a double life.  They smoke and drink or do drugs because they watch their parents.  Holy than thou on Sundays and an unholy during the week at home.  They put on a big show for the church while being huge hypocrites.

Right now many so called traditional Catholics are obsessed with the Divine Mercy which was banned by the Vatican.
And we see many embracing the world instead of leading others to the true faith in Jesus Christ.
