Well, the thing is don't get hooked with the internet. It's indeed a valuable tool but people should have limitations as well. Just like in everything we do...

Yes, JS, no wonder I have so much trouble sometimes focusing on doing things and wanting things to be done in an instant.

 Well, it's not even that there's just all that information out there you can get at 24/7 (or virtual social life, or, or, or...), but as Dr. David White (brilliant man) once pointed out, you can find ANYTHING on the internet... except the ability to tell lies from truth. You go looking for an obscure fact, you end up on someone's website (even wikipedia is authored by the masses), looking at something that could, for all you know, be completely false. But there it is! It looks terribly convincing! You don't know anything about it (or you wouldn't be looking for the information), so how do you know it's true?

Well, you could write miles on what's wrong with the net. The fact of the matter is, it IS addictive (I know from experience like everyone else here), and it's not natural. People are being DISCONNECTED from real social interaction and human life, by the wonderful (but usually false) social life or virtual life the net can offer them. We're spending more time than ever alone in our rooms, offices or what have you, looking at a screen, than we are interacting with the real world (at least in terms of free time, although these days many people WORK at computers, too!)

All in all, the computer offers to get our work done quicker/better, and allow us unlimited entertainment of whatever kind we're in the mood for (music, movies, talking, etc...), until we're reduced to the state of laboratory monkeys, who, upon pushing the right button, will be rewarded with a banana. Click the mouse, get entertainment. And as a result, we need about the IQ of a monkey to live that way. It's no wonder if our brains shrivel up in our heads, or we become dysfunctional in the real world. It's not natural, it's not normal, and it's not healthy.

Well, my good friend, you just perform some intellectual contortions (commonly referred to as double-think) and, voila - all is well!  It really is rather simple, you know - convenient, too.
