  • I'm just curious what other Trads do for work/career.

Me- I work at a proprietary school that trains auto technicians. I'm in Admissions (para-sales).
The wife stays home with the kids.

I used to be a firefighter. Did 6 years in the USAF, then worked for LAFD, then a smaller department (Santa Anna-where i  also learned to become devoted to St. Anne) for about a year. I was injured- but I believe it was good for me spiritually not to be there anymore. The firefighters here in LA are not the 'image' of what firefighters are typically portrayed as. Women @ the stations at night and other fleshiness tendencies were common. I lost a lot of my innocence in that time unfortunately- and many sins haunt me to this day. I guess all I can do is reparation...

Anyways- back on track- your turn!

  • I can't believe I left this out. I ALSO own a car dealer business. Its very atypical though, as I solely sell and advertise cars online- its the only way I can do it and keep my other job. But I'm licensed here in California. If any trad needs a car/ van/ truck- ever- let me know. The savings could be significant depending on the vehicle of course.  :smirk:

  • Four years in the Army, a college degree in English, a failed attempt at being a teacher (I lack the patience) I worked for a landscaping company, and eventually became an executive with it.  I now own my own business selling equipment, which has done very well.

  • Mom of 9 and homeschool. That keeps me pretty busy.

I used to teach childbirth education and parenting classes at a university hospital when we lived back East. Also worked as a doula. I would love to get back to it but the logistics of doula-work are at best difficult in our current state of life and the hospitals around here only hire nurses for women's education and I don't have it in me, or the money to re-certify, to teach CBE privately.

My husband is a food broker.

  • Jack of all trades, and master of some more than others. Im looking to enter into a career in agriculture, but I want to be able to farm land I can truly call my own without going into financial slavery for the banks. For now I'm experimenting with various small business ventures to get a feel for the demands of the market and pick up the skills and experience that each one has to offer.

  • Currently, I am taking care of my grandmother full time and have been doing it for 8 years. I've never had a job before but would like to get one when my grandmother departs this life. I don't know what I can work as, however, since I don't have any job experience and my college degree isn't something that can really benefit me since it limits my options.

  • One of my children, who lurks here occasionally to see what crazy thing his father has posted now, suggested that I mention that I lacked the patience with administrators to be a teacher, not the students.  I taught initially in a public school.  That was one type of bad.  Then I taught in a Catholic school, which was another type of bad, for far less money.  Some here have taken me to task for not being sufficiently traditional.  I was less so back then, but even so I could not stand the heretical nonsense that passed for religious education.  I was teaching English, not religion, but I still went home every day with a headache.  I love kids, and have a profound respect for teachers.  I expect teaching in a good Catholic school, or a good public school for that matter, could be a great joy.
