What did Winona do on Holy Week?
« on: April 12, 2026, 06:38:53 PM »
About 2 years ago last Good Friday in 2024 my dad remembers there being a pamphlet handed out to parishioners in order to signify the parts of the Mass that deviated from the 1962 Missal, eg, not genuflecting for the Jews. He also remembers Holy Communion not being distributed on Good Friday. This year when we went, none of those things remained. The American flag was half-mast for some reason. I went downstairs and noticed that the bookshop door was closed, but there was a box filled with books on a table nearby. One of the books in there was by Mother Teresa for some reason. It didn't have the name "saint" attached to it at least. I've also heard that the SSPX doesn't follow the 1962 Missal strictly, and that may apply to the Holy Week due to all that was left out, but this situation may have changed. A man on the rather infamous SSPX Discord server claims that 99% of SSPX chapels do the genuflection, whereas another man I talked to on there said "no one in my chapel is for that." I've heard that many SSPX chapels don't do this prayer as well.
So, what exactly was the situation of the rubrics 2 years ago and prior? What has changed? And another question: what is the situation of Winona like now that it is a seminary for the first year?

I could never hear the prayers, but the priets usually do the genuflection, in my experience.

As far as I know, there is no bending the knee to/for the Jews, rather bending the knee to God because we are praying to Him for various intentions.

Here is the video where you can here this explained. I've heard that Abp. Lefebvre left out the genuflection for the Jews (the previous practice was to stand for them) but that he kept Holy Communion on Good Friday.

At our SSPX chapel the priest said the prayer for the conversion of the Jews but did not kneel, and we were offered Holy Communion.
