  • I was noticing the same thing.

That's because the names most people pick -- especially if you count screwed up "creative" spellings -- never get enough numbers to win any numbers contests.

However, I bet the % of people who have one of these "top 10" names is quite low. Because most worldly people I know use the "Last name" style first names. I mean, pick ANY last name, and people gladly choose that for the first name for their boy or girl.

Carter, Compton, Reagan, McKenzie, Peyton, Colton, Addison, you name it.

I remember in the 80's Addison-Wesley had a popular line of school math textbooks. But those were the LAST NAMES of the individuals involved.

  • I just googled "ridiculous names" and found this page:
    https://hot1041stl.com/2728404/really-60-most-ghetto-names/

I didn't believe that there's someone named cellularphoniqua, so I googled that.
Some would have people believe that I'm a deceiver because I've used various handles on different Catholic forums. They only know this because I've always offered such information, unprompted. Various troll accounts on FE. Ben on SuscipeDomine. Patches on ABLF 1.0 and TeDeum. GuitarPlucker, Busillis, HatchC, and Rum on Cathinfo.

  • Interesting theory.  I wonder if it is possible to find out whether multiple spellings of the same name are counted separately or together (Sean the same as Shawn, Olivia the same as Alivia, etc.).

I will say, just anecdotally, many of the names of the list are certainly very popular where I live, and I wouldn’t guess the low percentage theory.

In particular, I have noticed a lot of children named Olivia, Eva, Liam, and Noah in the past few years.

I've been noticing this too.  A girl in the area recreational soccer program is named Riley.  Frankly, I've begun to wonder if the parents give their children last names as their first names is because they're really not sure what the last name of the child really is.
