Wearing a rosary?
« on: May 19, 2012, 05:55:34 PM »
What are anybody's thoughts about wearing a rosary?  Is it sacreligious?  I have been struggling with this issue for some time because I was raised to believe a rosary is not a piece of jewelry and should not be treated as such.  However, I do not want to be without my rosary during everyday life and don't always have pockets.  I have decided that maybe it would be ok to wear it around my neck as long as it's under my clothing and not visible.  Could anyone else, particularly the women on this forum, post opinions about this or suggestions?  I have done research and found contradictory advice.  This is of some concern to me, and I would welcome advice.  Thanks, Flannery

It's become kind of a fashion thing now thanks to jersey shore.  Sadly you see these gangsters wearing rosary's now for fashion.  I keep it in my pocket personally.

Keep it in your pocket if you can.  If you wear it underneath your clothing because you have no other option.  I don't see a problem with it.

I absolutely HATE IT[/i][/u] when I see people wearing Rosaries. It drives me crazy and makes me want to chin-check some of these people. The people who I see doing this, however, are the kinds that place no significance on the importance of it.

Unfortunately though, they're the product of their environment and probably don't care about whether or not it offends us as Catholics. To them it's a fashion symbol and there's nothing short of doing something illegal that we can do about it, really.

Objectively there is nothing wrong with it. It's really what your intentions are. You can either kiss the face of Jesus out of love, or, like Judas, kiss it out of betrayal. If you are wearing a rosary around your neck out of Love for God (or just to avoid losing it), and circuмstances don't make it inappropriate, then no one has a right to stop you.
