  • I'm surprised I hadn't heard about this since it's a local story...

    Short version:

18-year-old in TX is "talking trash" with friends on Facebook.
In response to being called crazy, he says, "I'm *** in the head alright, I think I'ma shoot up a kindergarten." Two similar comments follow.
Unknown person in CANADA sees his comments, views his location as listed on Facebook, and reports him to local police in TX.
TX police find that address listed on his Driver's License is within 100 yards of an elementary school in Austin. They proceed to find him at work (in San Antonio) and arrest him. They search his home (in New Braunfels) and find no evidence that he is a danger to anyone.
Nonetheless, his bail is set at half a million dollars and he faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
He spends 4 months in jail until an anonymous person posts his bail. During that time, he is sɛҳuąƖly assulted and then put on ѕυιcιdє watch due to his depression.
At this point, if he agrees to plead guilty to a felony, he can serve 10 years probation instead.

This happened a year ago and the charges still haven't been dropped.

Yet another reason to keep your family away from Facebook? If this guy had been anonymous, they might not have bothered to track him down, but he made it all too easy for them.

  • If you threaten to kill people you deserve what you get.

The only thing that gets me about this is that all the threats I have seen on Youtube posted by muslims seem to be ignored. But that could be because it is a great source of intel for the govt.

  • People get far worse in many countries just for saying that they think their president or leader is corrupt.

Americans are prone to massive over-reaction with these sorts of stupid puerile outbursts and lack mental balance and perspective to deal with what could have been dealt with by a short sharp shock.  That said, the offending male was an American and should have know what the ground rules were.  I would never make a sarcastic joke to an immigration, customs or law enforcement official when visiting the US because I know they don't like that. I behave maturely and respectfully around such people.

I think more maturity is needed by this idiot, the prosecution and the people who are supposed to have control in prison as well as the laws and politicians who govern them.  We know society is uptight about this stuff, so DON'T JOKE ABOUT IT.

What is needed is more billy sticks and for 18 year old punks and prisoner rapists to get a good crack around the head when they break the rules.  Pain is a great teacher.  But to have that return we would need to have first world countries where we mostly agreed on a common set of values.

Truth is, in the past punks like this idiot were put into place by older men be they teachers at school, drill sergeants or cops.  Those that turned into John Dillinger were shot dead.

  • I have seen lots of crazy stuff posted on Face Book. yakking about their
personal lives, and stuff that no one needs to know. Once on Facebook,
it is immediately picked up by NSA and other spy groups. And will
be used against you if you are considered a political dissident and a
    terrorist.

  • This is absolutely ridiculous. And I don't understand how anyone could think he got what he deserved. He was not threatening anyone. Of course it was stupid. But he is also 18 and he was probably just picking out an outrageous scenario based on news in the headlines or perhaps he was influenced by Hollywood to make a point. Maybe he watched Kindergarten Cop recently.

Look, I did not read the article linked. Just basing my opinion on what is here. And if all there was to this is one off the cuff comment as posted, I think a better person to arrest is the nosey parker from Canada. If he was going into detail and kept repeating these ideas that may be another story and may change my opinion.

I also get a real kick out of the fear that arose that he lives "within 100 yards of an elementary school". Talk about being blinded by laws on the books and making the stupid comment more dramatic than need be. How does this make him more of a threat? Are you telling me that he doesn't have the means to make it to a school 5 miles away? What does proximity have to do with it? Is he a child molester? Is he running a liquor store or an adult book store?

Maybe they should be looking into arresting his high school composition teacher or the school he got his diploma from for not sufficiently educating him to move beyond the most rudimentary, wet and base examples to try and make a point. Or maybe they ought to be arresting the producers of certain entertainment programs, and yes that includes the big shots who produce "news".

Even if they charged him for the cost of the search that turned up nothing it would not be just. However, I would be OK with that. Scare the hell out of him, charge him for police costs, and asses him a fine. But to be incarcerated, raped, and still facing 10 years of prison time? Utterly ridiculous.

I suppose the moral of the story is more than just being careful what you say on line. It is be careful in everything you do. Because obviously they have people in all sorts of positions just waiting to process folks through the system. What if he uttered this phrase at a local bar? Friend says, "you're crazy". And he responds in a sarcastic way with the identical comment. They going to arrest him for that too?

In the old days when long distance phone calls were considered a luxury, people would talk louder if you were making a call from say NY city to Long Island. Even if the connection was clear. In short order, their children would call each other and just breathe on the phone. In other words just hanging out on a party line. It was a normal environment for them and as normal as hanging out with someone in person. I suspect this guy viewed talking with FB friends as actually being with them in person. And maybe his only friends were on FB.

Let's have a little mercy on the guy. Shall we? Some of these comments saying he ought to have the book thrown at me kind of scare me. Because, quite frankly, I don't want to live in nαzι Germany.

  • Here it is -- poor language, bad grammar and all. This is all they have as evidence. One screenshot. Nothing before these comments and nothing after. No indication as to whether or not he was even the only person saying things like this.

Sure, he was stupid. But a ridiculous percentage of our 18-year-old population is every bit as stupid as he is and just don't have anyone reporting their comments to the local police. I don't think it's worth ruining the boy's life over.

  • Soulguard asks a very good question. I think the answer is that it is an example of the collective demonic possession so to speak of America. The worship of the devil always includes four things (there may be more, I'm no expert) desecration of Our Lord in the Most Holy Sacrament, the brutal murder of children, unnatural vice & cannibalism. Think of the ceremonies of moloch-worship, casting children into a furnace, the worship of the Aztecs is another good example, a cannibal feast always followed the sacrifices. I'm not saying this young fellow is guilty of any of these things, but rather that the spirit of evil so pervades this country that those who are not Christ's will invariably be influenced by it to some degree. They breathe it in through the raw sewage which is the so-called "popular culture". Think of all the new cinema & television programmes which glorify the occult, witches, vampires, ufo's & so forth. It's all of a piece slowly but surely inducting the neo-pagan mass-man into the cult of the devil. Already the super-bowl which could be considered a high holy day for American neo-pagans features what can only be called ceremonies of outright devil worship. It will only get worse as time goes on, may God & His Most Holy Mother save the remnant of the faithful.

In the black community this is well known. Lots of "spaces" for young men and people earning a living from it.

  • I'm sorry but "blood of the innocent" that is pretty disturbed.

I don't think it deserves a ten year sentence or any sentence but I disagree it's just talking trash or being a brainless teen.

Where do you draw the line at what is talking trash and what is not? I was threatened a week ago by someone. Their spouse and the police told me they wouldn't hurt me, I was just seeing "anger" and it would be best not to have the police give them a citation.
First they obviously controls their "anger" because when the cop appeared they were all smiles. They have a sound mind and chose to say and behave how they did. Secondly anger is different than threats, their intention was to intimidate me with threats to harm me in the future. Third I found it upsetting the cops POV was what will happen if we give them a citation, it will only make them more angry. So now we tip toe around bullies so they have 0 consequences and really nothing to fear at all! :whistleblower:

  • I am quite disgusted with "the system" these days.  But I think it's very appropriate that this person was charged with a crime.  I am not so sure that I agree with the legislation making this nature of thing (all talk) a felony instead of a misdemeanor though.

Imagine if something had happened and it came to light that this information had been ignored.

  • Even in this country, where "freedom of speech" is as exagerrated and idolized as it has ever been, anywhere - it is still not an absolute.

This is a classic case of "'fire' in a crowded theater." And, as OHCA says, if this idiot did do something, there would be an outcry that this explicit public declaration of intention to commit murder was ignored, and it would be justified. This moron may not have been a threat to anyone, and the charges may be overblown in hindsight, but announcing that one is going to shoot up a kindergarten and spill the blood of the innocent can hardly be dismissed as "trash talking."

In any case, I agree this is yet another of a thousand reasons not to be on Facebook, which is essentially a CIA-funded data collection device.
