  • Of my mother’s 6 brothers 2 were alcohol addicts. The elder reformed his wanton ways, through taking the Pledge and went on to live a useful, fulfilled life. The younger may or may not have taken the Pledge but certainly did not keep it, and gave his wife and children a difficult existence.

If you want to berate anyone for socialising over a glass of whatever takes your fancy, you should start your own thread not derail this perfectly innocent one.

Our Blessed Lord himself enjoyed a cup of wine from time to time, so let’s not get things out of proportion. It is no sin to enjoy a tipple. There was no sign of alcohol abuse in the short clip, just instances of coldness towards the aged man anf kindness from others.

    Bottoms up!
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • I’m sorry but a disagree with Chesterton.

Important things should have been better discussed at home or church environment.

In USA, many riots, loots etc instead of going to church.  Notre Dame is cesspool.  Plenty of drinking at bars, dorms, rapes, approval of sodomy and promiscuity.  Then there is Theology on tap.

Ireland Catholicism did have Pioneer to combat alcoholism.
We have no choice that we are in the world. We need not be of the world. Lifting a pint is certainly compatible with Catholicism. Catholics are neither prudes nor teetotalers.

  • 🚨🇮🇪 A Limerick city councillor has called for anti-immigration protestors to be "shot in the head"!

Abul Kalam Azad Talukder is a native of Bangladesh who came to Ireland in 2000 and was elected to Limerick council in 2019.

At a council meeting, Azad Talukder, who is a member of Fianna Fáil, said of last week's riots in Dublin:

“Not even an animal does these kind of thing. It is very shameful and they should get public punishment...I’d like to see them shot in the head or bring the public in and beat them until they die”

Will the councillor be investigated for incitement to violence, as we heard Gardaí were considering investigating Conor McGregor?

  • I identify with that dear old man who has lost his wife most likely. Lovely to see kind people after the snubs he got on the street.

Don’t be a wowser, holier-than-thou, Viva. Get with the spririt in which Cassini posted the short clip. Get off your high horse for the sake of Charity.
The commercial is total FICTION to promote ATHEISM.  It never happened.  It’s a commercial.  Maybe it’s long overdue for boomers to off turn the television off because many can’t tell the difference between reality and fiction.

Truth is charity. Truth is go to Mass instead of pub.

We met many farmers in Southern Ireland who rarely went to the pub because they were out in their fields working or had dairy farms.

    And Yeats.

Yeats had a lifelong interest in mysticism, spiritualismoccultismand astrology. He read extensively on the subjects throughout his life, became a member of the paranormal research organisation "The Ghost Club" (in 1911) and was influenced by the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg.[31] As early as 1892, he wrote: "If I had not made magic my constant study I could not have written a single word of my Blake book, nor would The Countess Kathleen ever have come to exist. The mystical life is the centre of all that I do and all that I think and all that I write."[32] His mystical interests—also inspired by a study of Hinduism, under the Theosophist Mohini Chatterjee, and the occult—formed much of the basis of his late poetry. Some critics disparaged this aspect of Yeats's work.[33]

  • Maybe instead of a bar,  he should go to Mass where he can offer his loneliness up to Jesus who will provide him friends in Christ while praying for the souls  of his loved ones. ( Are bars open on Christmas Day?)

Take a lonely older person to Mass.  after Mass, have tea, soup and egg salad sandwiches.

Christmas should be Jesus centered;not man centered.

St Patrick, pray for us all.

The real life of St Patrick is really interesting.

  • A nice little video.

G.K. Chesterton wrote about how he lamented the loss of the alehouses as a place for the community to meet up. And not only was it a social place, but important matters were often discussed as well. The everyday man's parliament, I think he called it.
Meg, the video is fiction to promote atheism.

To be honest who really is Chesterton?  We have wealthy converts from Protestant to Catholicism today who write books on fiction and Catholicism.  And most of them are grifters.

If you are a Catholic, you could see how Jesus isn’t involved in this commercial.

Back in the day women weren’t even allowed to enter alehouses or bars.  Now there are many “Catholics” taking children to gαy bars to see drag queens.  Look at how many unholy parishes there are.

In early America, churches served to worship God and community to discuss important matters.

You will know them by their fruits.

A real tear jerker is the unholy state of the Catholic Church around the world.

  • Nadir, “Getting with the spirit”?    Sorry, I am not getting into the spirit of the anti Christ.  I am done with being deceived by the devil.

There are many out there who want to put an end to Christmas with their secular songs, cards, gift wrap and secular feel good commercials with feel good secular music, happy holidays etc.

The Reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ!

The trouble is most Catholics are of the world and are living in a state of mortal sin.

All the evils in the world is because of lukewarm Catholics.

  • “Franciscan Father Manuel Sandesh has also chosen the tattoo"Humanity is the greatest religion" is to be written on the entire length of his forearm. In addition, a "Jesus". Today there is only enough time for "Jesus", the 43-year-old Franciscan wants to have the rest done in Stuttgart in Silas Beck's studio "Mommy I'm Sorry". The unconventional Catholic priest with Indian roots is also an amateur rapper. His latest hit is also entitled "Humanity is the Greatest Religion".The song echoes loudly from his iPhone during the stabbing, at times he sings along. Sandesh also made a name for himself in Carinthia in 2020 when he put a new soundtrack to a Carinthian song.

  • Positivist temple in Porto Alegre
    Chapelle of humanity in Paris
Religion of Humanity (from French Religion de l'Humanité or église positiviste) is a secular religion created by Auguste Comte (1798–1857), the founder of positivist philosophy. Adherents of this religion have built chapels of Humanity in France and Brazil.[1]
In the United States and Europe, Comte's ideas influenced others, and contributed to the emergence of ethical societies and "ethical churches", which led to the development of Ethical culture, congregational humanist, and secular humanist organisations.

Thank you Nadir, my intention was to share a Christian type add for a local pub that reflects charity for the lonely, a very Christian act included in loving your neighbour.
It also reflects the situation in Ireland today. To begin with we see the man at his obviously wife's grave in a most Catholic graveyard with its crosses everywhere.
He then goes to his local for a pint.
When the Lord changed water into wine after the wedding wine was drunk, proves there is no harm in having a drink, or two. It is drunkenness that is sinful, and that man was portrayed as having  a pint while looking for company.

Two things are present in Ireland today, the closing down of rural pubs and the churches empty of priests to say Mass.
I have no doubt there was no local Mass that day for that man to go to.
At a time when Catholicism was everywhere in Ireland, both churches and pubs were full of Catholics.
Then came drinking laws that stopped rural people driving to pubs. Then came those absurd covid laws that forbid anyone going a mile from their home. Those rural pubs that served the social aspect of humanity were empty so had to close down.
As for Mass, well thanks to the changes brought about by Vatican II, when churches were ripped apart, altars ripped out to be replaced with tables, a new secular type of Mass that allowed innovations of all sorts, people lost faith and interest in it. I recall a friend gave me three beautiful crucifixes with bronze Jesus he found in a skip. Then came the scandals, priest with girlfriends and Bishop Casey with a child that came out on a television show. Then parents did not hand on the faith to their children, churches emptied and vocations to the priesthood disappeared. Today one elderly priest may have to cover two or three or four parish churches.
