  • I was reading "The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary" by this author.  Now: we all should know that the historical Church beatified (and sometimes canonized) "saints" who would not pass scrutiny in this day, certainly we know this.

I have a serious problem with this narrative.  First: it reads like "automatic writing" somewhat like "A Course in Miracles".  Second, much of what is written cannot be determined as true.  Third: the following from page 72:

"When seventeen weeks and five days after the conception of the Blessed Virgin had gone by (that is to say, five days before Anna's pregnancy was half accomplished), I saw our Lady's holy mother lying asleep in her bed in her house near Nazareth.  Then there came a shining light above her, and a ray from this light fell upon the middle of her side, and the light passed into her in the shape of a little shining human figure.  In the same instant, I saw our Lady's holy mother raise herself on her couch surrounded by light. She was in ecstasy and had a vision of her womb opening like a tabernacle to enclose a shining little virgin from whom man's whole salvation was to spring.  I saw that this was the instant in which for the first time the child moved within her......It was made known to me that the Blessed Virgin's soul was united to her body five days earlier than with other children, and that her birth was twelve days earlier."

Ok let's analyze this: 17 weeks equals 119 days; five days "after" equals 124 days.  The subsequent statement that the "Blessed virgin's soul was united to her body five days earlier than with other children" means that at 17 weeks (119 days) of gestation equals 29.85 weeks BEFORE THE SOUL IS UNITED TO THE BODY  according to this text.

Now: this could mean that ABORTION up to (almost) 30 weeks gestation (and there are neonates surviving birth now at 28 weeks and EARLIER) is perfectly OK since no "soul" is yet connected to the fetus.

Am I supposed to believe this? Am I supposed to truly believe that this woman, Anne Catherine Emmerich, is speaking TRUTH in a volume I won't even consider finishing because it is filled with error and goes against scripture (Jeremiah 1:5:  "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.")

SO:  some of us are appointed and the rest of us are "nothing and without souls" (according to ACE) until 29 weeks gestation?

Could that be true?  I suppose God can do anything.  But I must tell you that I consider abortion murder; I consider every life anointed by God (even those lost in miscarriage, etc. before birth), and that this ACE's statement, as made on the page I notated, is totally against the present doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church.  Now: what does that TELL US?  That not every "venerable", "blessed" or even "saint" named by the Catholic Church throughout its history is actually what they are portrayed to be so we must PROCEED WITH GREAT CAUTION.

If you don't agree, posit a credible argument.
