Tropical Storm force winds here in Texas today

  • We're having constant winds around 35 MPH, and quite regular gusts to 50-55 MPH and beyond.
We live on a slight elevation, in a rural area, surrounded by farmland with few trees. So we get more wind than anyone in the city who doesn't live on a hill.
There is a near constant "howling" when you're outside, like you're in the middle of a hurricane or something. It's quite impressive; some might say scary. At least exciting.
It was worse when the storm first started around 6:45 AM.

Things have dislodged and blown away that were fine (stable) where they stood for MONTHS. This is very unusual weather, even for us. Not super rare, but not everyday common either.

To make things even stranger, these strong winds are coming from the West. Around here, we either get N or S winds, about 99.5% of the time. It's not like we get winds from all 4 of the cardinal directions at random. It simply doesn't work that way here.

Also, there is single-digit humidity. So the authorities are quite concerned, and called for a "Red Flag day" -- no burning of any kind allowed.

39 - 73 MPH is "Tropical storm" level
