    • I attend a traditional church, not under the dioceses.  In the bulletin is a web site www.conquerseries.com and sponsors are protestants.  This site is selling DVD's for $129. for dealing with Porn addiction.  The way I see it, is why? put that in a traditional bulletin?  The Roman Catholic Church believes in the Powers of the Blood in the sacraments and Our Lady's rosary.  The way I see protestant programs would be a temporary fix? lose of money.  I could see a Catholic priest obtaining information/knowledge and saying what he wishes from the Pulpit/confessional.  But really, Powers are in the Precious Blood and Rosary.  What would be your thoughts?

    • I don't know anything about that particular site, nor the protestant program, but the idea that you can "pray away" a problem such as addiction, depression, anxiety, is incorrect.  The solution is both spiritual and temporal.  You can't "pray away" cardiovascular disease, or cancer, so why do you think you can do the same thing with mental issues?

    There are plenty of non-catholics who are able to turn their lives around through these programs (i.e. alcoholic anonymous) and they provide good, practical, common sense solutions, in addition to a little bit of spiritual guidance.  Catholics are lucky in that they have more spiritual weapons at their disposal, but to say that the temporal helps/programs are not needed is naive.

    • Oh, I don't know.  In addition to prayer and the Sacraments, there are other practical things that someone could do to help overcome sin.  Of course, one has to be wary of some heretical Protestant theology, but giving people practical techniques to help avoid impurity is not such a bad thing.  It's becoming more and more well known that pornography can create the same neurological pathways as any drug addiction.  Perhaps the priest at this church has heard a thing or two in the Confessional that made him realize that something like this might help.

    Over time, God will provide graces to help overcome these things of course, but practical measures are also required to have the best effect.  If I could take a pill to stop an addiction, wouldn't I do it instead of waiting for the prayer to have its effect?  Perhaps the pill IS God's answer to the prayer, no?

    • If these Prots can provide some mental and behavioral techniques that can help someone overcome porn addiction, then more power to them.  It's a shame that Catholics aren't doing more work like this but are content to ladle out soup to the homeless.

    • I thank you for all your comments.  I was thinking, maybe it best not to be in the bulletin, but the priest could direct the sinner in confession.  I honestly see that more teaching from the pulpit on the Powers of Blood and Rosary.  Some times IMO I hear words like "graces", confession but not as strong as maybe it could be.  

    I knew of a confessor whose remedy for many sins and tribulations was to say 3 rosaries a day and I did find that to be very helpful.

    • There is a NO program called Wholly Men , based out of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Tempe, AZ that deals with porn addiction and its prevention.

    • I searched the Wholly Men.  Comes under Dr. Monica Hildago Breax teacher or Catholic Social Worker.  Also comes with the website: COSA  Circles of Support Accountability which comes under United Way.  Federal funded.  Uses 12 step techniques as to A=ANON and AA.  

    Question is: will the clergy of the dioceses of Phoenix make use of this program?  Fat chance!  That is my assessment.  Evidently, the clergy can not direct the parishioners to help, so hire on some one else.  Do the people of the dioceses pay for their pervert priest (?) for help?  We know the 12 step techniques are what one may call, generic that is, set up for any denomination.  I don't think it will go, but the money will!

    I can't find anything about united way or a 12 step program. 

    From the comments under Wholly Women. I think she is against those things you mentioned. 

    Not that I'm a fan of the NO, but it might be a step up from Protestant thinking.
