  • We have had the minimum required amount of people sign up for the YAG Event.  So, it is now officially happening.  We have also had several people who have not been able to commit yet but who have contacted us with interest.  So, we are extending the registration until September 30th.  We figure that will still give us 2 months to plan and coordinate everything.

Here is the current up to date information:

    THANKSGIVING WEEKEND TRAD-YAG MEET-UP

    NOVEMBER 25TH - 27TH 2022

    BASIC SCHEDULE:

    Friday Dinner - 6 pm
    Location: Local Mexican Restaurant

Saturday Morning Breakfast and Meet-Up - 9 am
Location: Local recreation center (for entertainment there is a pool table, ping pong table, foosball table, half court racket ball gym/basket ball gym) with coffee and doughnuts/Muffins provided for breakfast.

    Saturday Lunch - 12 pm
    Location: Recreation Center

Saturday 15 decade rosary walk and hike at local park around 3-4 pm.

Saturday Formal Dinner - 6 pm
Location: Local Japanese Steak House (or other appropriate restaurant if we have too many people to make a reservation there).

Sunday Morning will be left open for people to go to various Mass times. The town we are hosting the various YAG events in is Front Royal, VA.  It is located a little over an hour away from Saint Athanasius Chapel in Vienna, VA.  Mass times there are at 7 am, 9 am and 11 am.  (If you are from out of State and have questions, please feel free to ask for more information.)

    Sunday Lunch Meet-Up - 12 pm
    Location: Recreation Center
(For those who go to one of the earlier two Masses.)

Sunday official meet-up at 2-3 pm back at the local recreation center with a chance to socialize and walk around a local horse farm and trails.  (We plan to also have board games available.)

Sunday Dinner – Local BBQ - 6 pm
    Location: Recreation Center

    Sunday Evening - 7 pm
Bonfire on the Recreation patio with singing of folk and Irish music (if we get enough people to sign up for staying later in the evening).

    SIGN UP DETAILS:

    1. People signing up can email us their information at: allthroughmary@gmail.com.

    2.  The age range for this event is 18-40.  (We will make the one exception that if someone will be 18 within a year of (or has turned 41 within the year prior to) the event they may still come.)

    3. When signing up, please include your first name, last name, age, address (at least your state) and a phone number at which we can contact you.  (We are hoping to provide name tags for everyone.)

    3. Due to so many meals involved, we are requesting a donation of $100-$150 to help cover the costs ($100 for those who plan to attend up to 3 big meals; $150 for those who plan to attend everything and all meals).  $50 earnest deposit checks can be sent to Andrew and Rita Nunley at:

    320 Peakova Lane
    Front Royal, VA 22630.

    4. No details with exact locations of the events will be given to anyone until they have completed the sign up.  This is to prevent random people who have not signed up from showing up unexpectedly.

    5. The deadline for sign up is September 30th.

    6.  When you sign up please let us know which events and meals you plan to attend (Friday Dinner, Saturday breakfast, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Dinner, Sunday Lunch, Sunday Dinner and/or Bonfire).

Lol...  I don't think most Mexican restaurants serve tofu.

Cheese enchiladas are an option, but that is usually what kids get when they go.  :cowboy:

    Here are some of them:

    Tacos de Camaron (Shrimp Tacos)
Served with lettuce, cheese and pico de gallo

    Piña Loca
Grilled pineapples stuffed with shrimp with peppers, onions topped with melted cheese. Served rice and beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and a side of tortillas

    Fajitas Taco Salad
A crisp, flour tortilla filled with beans and shrimp. Topped with lettuce, tomatoes, melted cheese and sour cream

    Sopa Azteca
Scallops shrimp, sliced mushrooms, fresh garlic, cilantro and scallions

    Vallarta Salad
Grilled shrimp on a bed of lettuce with cucuмbers, bell peppers, tomatoes, onions and grated cheese

    Uncle Roy's Salad
Bed of lettuce with tomatoes, sliced cucuмbers, sliced avocado and limes with grilled shrimp

    Cancun Salad
Grilled shrimp and scallops on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, cucuмbers, onions, bell peppers and grated cheese

A giant flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, shrimp and beans. Served with rice, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo

    “HOT” Camarones Tapatios
Grilled shrimp with chopped tomatoes, onions and fresh jalapeños. Served with beans, rice and tortillas

    Camarones al Mojo de Ajo
Grilled shrimp cooked with garlic sauce. Served over a bed of rice with tossed salad and tortillas

    Shrimp Chimichanaga
A giant flour tortilla stuffed with shrimp, onion, tomatoes and cheese and smothered with cheese sauce. Served with rice, beans, guacamole salad and sour cream

    Shrimp Cocktail
“Our House Recipe” Shrimp served with tomato juice seasoned with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, sliced avocados and lime

There's a lot of seafood in Mexican cuisine because they have a ton of coastline and a lot of diversity. Now, if it's a Mexican restaurant run by palateless whites who think Texas Pete is spicy, then maybe they'll have tofu tacos. A real one would not. Especially in a country with such rich Catholic heritage like Mexico.

    Agreed.

I'm breaking out of the stereotype myself. Despite the % being rather low, my upbringing (culture) was disproportionately Irish. Attitudes toward the world, education, truth, sense of humor, expressions, verbal banter, you name it. Perhaps we grew up as Irish kids because my dad was a strong influential figure, despite not being huge on discipline. But anyhow, our meals were VERY low-spice and bland growing up.

Today, I make a dish of queso and use 6 or more jalapenos, seeds and all.

  • If it’s the Mexican restaurant I’m thinking of in Front Royal, it’s excellent and there are plenty of seafood and vegetarian dishes to choose from.  They’ll make it more or less spicy according to taste. Not all Mexican food is hot.

I’d love to come, but I’m too old, 63, although single, and it’s too far.  I used to visit Front Royal every summer for a week from 2005-2018.  After that, other obligations took priority, plus my good friend from there passed away last year.

I hope the young adults (and the old ones!) have a good time and possibly meet their future husband or wife!

  • You have to differentiate real Mexican food from Tex-Mex franchises, which is Mexican food adapted to American tastes, Taco Bell is an example of the latter.

The restaurant I’m thinking of is definitely NOT Taco Bell!  It’s authentically Mexican.  The name escapes me right now.  Sorry.

I'm white & I also don't have a "palateless" tongue. Let's have a contest on who can handle spicy food, I bet you would lose. Anyways seafood is nasty, so have fun with that.
