Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215: "Moreover, we determine to subject to excommunication believers who receive, defend, or support heretics."
Does this mean we can't go to businesses owned by heretics or buy goods ofrom them even if the proceeds would not fund a heretical cause? At the time of the Council it was much easier to avoid doing business with heretics than it is now. Does this also mean we can't let heretic family members into our houses because of the receive part? Does defend mean to defend a heretic in his heresies or defend him in any position such as explaining why he was treated unjustly in a situation?
