Someone was asking about CatholicMatch.com --
I can say that CatholicMatch is a bona-fide Catholic dating site.
That being said, there are a LOT of Novus Ordo (non-traditionally minded) Catholics on that site. When you sign up, you are asked to answer Yes/No to 7 questions -- "Do you believe in waiting until marriage?", "Do you believe in papal infallibility" and such.
The scary thing is, even though all 7 questions are dogmas of the Catholic Faith, all too many people answer NO to one or more of them!
Anyhow, you DO want to focus on what's most important in a spouse, and that is your faith. If you were an average worldling, I'd give you the standard dating advice: "Join groups that do activities you enjoy! If you like skating, go to the skating rink. If you like art, go to a museum!" HOWEVER -- that doesn't work today. You're NOT going to meet individuals with a similar (Catholic) philosophy to yours. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment. Mutual love of rock-climbing, art, or cooking will NOT hold a marriage together during all the crosses most married couples encounter sooner or later. If you aren't both Catholic, your marriage is a huge upstream battle with a 10% chance of long-term success.
Therefore it's very important to either meet traditional Catholics in your area, or use a website like the one mentioned.
As always, you need to get to know a person before you get emotionally invested, etc. But that's standard advice you hear from many quarters.
I met my wife on CatholicMatch.com. There's no way a yankee from Illinois would have ever met a girl from south Texas without that website
God bless,
Matthew
