Title: To do with abstinence from meat
Post by: Kephapaulos on August 22, 2008, 07:27:34 PM
I know it is not lawful to eat meat or meat broths, but what about meat fats or things that contain meat fats?

I keep to tuna (with garbanzo beans, red onions, olive oil and lemon juice), pasta or egg sandwiches. Keep it simple is my motto.
What type of fats are you talking of?

I like your menu, Dawn, but I don't think my family would touch anything but the pasta.  :smirk:

I tend to lean toward following the "spirit of the law" and not stress about if I'm meeting the "letter of the law".

For example, I could toss "bacon pieces" on my salad any day of the week as there isn't a bit of actual meat in them, but I don't as it wouldn't really be in the spirit of abstinence. I guess something like a tofu burger would be the same for me.

On the other hand, I generally have no idea what goes into the food I buy at the grocery store. For example, I think traditionally tortillas are made with animal fat, but I'd imagine most of them are not and don't pick up every package I use on abistenance days to verify there's no animal contents.

I think if I made a pie and knew very well that I used lard in the crust, I'd probably wait until Saturday to have another piece.  :ready-to-eat:

If anyone finds a REAL answer to this question, I'd love to hear it.
