I've been mistaken for a Jewess for decades. I live in a large city with a large Orthodox and Hasidic population. Jewish and Muslim women are known for modest dress. Since I am definitely not in Muslim garb, the alternative is assumed. The fact that I am of mixed Polish, German, and Russian ancestry clinches the matter in people's minds. I'm also half Irish, but do not resemble my father's side of the family. I use it as an opportunity to alert people to the existence of traditional Catholics.
