Title: Third Orders
Post by: Viva Cristo Rey on February 25, 2018, 01:51:43 PM
What is the difference between Third order Franciscan and Third. Order Carmelites?

Discalced means shoe less or wears sandals.  What exactly does it mean Discalced Carmelite?

A third order Franciscan lives his/her life in the spirit of St Francis.
A third order Carmelite lives his/her life in the spirit of  desert fathers on Mt Carmel.
Two different types of spirituality.
A third order Dominican lives his/her life in the spirit of Dominic etc, etc.

A third order gives access of these various modes of life to the lay person. First order is ordained; second order is brothers and nuns.

Yes. Discalced means without shoes, so a discalced Carmelite belongs to that group of Carmelites who theoretically go without shoes, but usually nowadays they wear sandals.

Here: meet some of my Discalced Carmelite (second order) friends.

There are third order SSPX members in the resistance. Although of course the first order has lost the faith.

Third order discalced carmelites do not have to go without sandals. Thats only for the first order.

I don't go to SSPX anymore.  ( I wonder if I could still be a Third Order St Pius X?).
