  • Home Depot has their full Christmas setup right by the front entrance -- Christmas trees, decorations, gift accessories, etc.

I just got an e-mail from "Home Shopping Network" (I've never purchased from them) that wouldn't look out of place if I received it on December 18. It was 100% Christmas themed.

And Halloween is still 19 days away! Give me a break!

I blame every idiot who spends $1 more than he intended to, just because they put him in a "Christmassy mood". Stupid bags of emotion. If many people didn't end up spending more, they wouldn't bother doing this.

  • It is not going to be a Merry Christmas for many people. No jobs, no money,
and the worst of all we are on the verge of WW3.

  • It's especially insane when it happens in Texas. It's not even cool enough to drink hot chocolate, not even in the early morning. If I drank a hot beverage now, I'd have to be inside where the A/C is on, and/or in front of a fan.

I had to turn on the A/C today because the high was 89 (feels like 96). That happens every time the South wind starts blowing. For the past 5 days the wind was from the North, and it was nice out. We had the windows open and it was even chilly in the mornings.

But now (for the next 7 days or so) it feels like Summer, not Winter. I can't believe anyone can get "all Christmassy" right now. Ridiculous. The big corporations want 1/4 of the year to be "Christmas season".

All they're pushing is a vapid caricature of the Catholic Christmastide anyhow. All happy, all the time. Plus a good healthy dose of "Spend, spend, spend!" It's totally meaningless.

Ha ha, spoken like a transplanted Northener! - and I couldn't agree more!

"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

  • My understanding is that US holiday sales are generally so poor these days that the only way to boost them is to start earlier in the year.  In any case, you can always unsubscribe from your Home Depot emails.

Nadir, technically the word holiday comes from the words Holy Day...so you actually don't need to fix it. I just think it is funny when people say "holiday" instead when they don't know the roots of the word.

I know the derivation of the word, and I also know many who use it to replace the word Christ-Mass have ill intent: that is to deny Christ and ban Him from the "holiday". Which is why it is important that faithful Catholics do not fall into the trap set by atheiststs. So yes, that does need fixing.

Besides there other holidays throughout the year, varying from country to country. But there is only one Christmas and that is a universal feastday.
